I just read the whole thread and all I can say is wow. I feel it comes down to the junk and the not so junked. ...and Pats why dont you spend all the cash you have saved and buy a brand new duramax. then you can preach to us about running used dogsh!t for fuel in your $50,000 piece of junk. I'm sure it says in the owners manual you can use 10% of whatever is around and then blend it with 25.9% of whatever you brew up with a minimum of 2.764% actual #2 diesel fuel to power it. I am tired of people using the cummins as a whipping post.

Question ?
Quote:
So JReed, what is your point, do you drive on any alternative fuel or not? I've read the whole thread too and even a couple of times and we all have heard over and over again how bad it is driving on "waste anything"...and i don't point my finger at you but what would be really fine is comments and experiences of people who DO drive on waste products, the pro's and contra's of driving on alternative fuels, i've asked allready a couple of times some comments which could be helpfull...could we stick to that people, whitout getting personal to eachother? I believe that this topic is/was on WMO and i'm still waiting on some results after 28 pages ???Thanks to all who have helped so far... |

Wow, someone got their cheerios pissed in this morning huh? Just FYI, They'll be another Duramax in the driveway. Once the Wife is out of radiology school. Doesn't make any sense to buy one now with a loan. When I can drive what I have now and pay cash later on for what I want. I don't follow your final comment though. Cummins as a whipping post? You're surely not drinking some of the daily Kool-aid passed around here. It IS a cummins site, but some people here believe these engines are gods gift to mankind. (I'm not disputing that they aren't a great engine. I'm saying that a lot of it is merely namesake.) P.S. My name isn't Pat.

Lonewolf, the old indirect injection diesel systems and ve and p-pumped cummins are probably in the vast minority now, compared to the vp,cr and on injected modern engines and more so as time goes by.It seems everyone almost agrees that the modern systems don't tolerate wmo.My understanding is that to make wmo oil clean it has to go through a process as complicated as a small oil refinery, far beyond the scope of us backyarders.Looking forward wouldn't it make more sense to colaborate on a fuel that is cheap to make, will work in all diesel fuel systems,is easy to make, relatively non polluting, and if it can be made cleaner than diesel fuel may allow for less complicated pollution systems which is definetly not the way the future is headed.

I'm going to toss 2 cents in here... I will admit that Cummins Engines will run on WEO/WMO. That not even a doubt to me. But the fact still is that the fuel system are not ment to pump a fuel that is nearly 10 times thickier than diesel fuel for one. Usually results in pump damage. This is why Cummins doesn't suggest any more than 5% by volume MAX if you going to do it. Then there is all the stuff you just can't filter out or get with magnets, etc. This stuff is pump through the fuel system add wear to the pumps and injectors. Like I said before I have a few people call me directly asking what happened. Most of the time they damaged there injectors (plugged) and/or distroyed there IP pump. As for the P-pump engines... They seem to take more abuse than any other fuel system. VE, VP44, CP3's are all very touchy and don't like to pump waste products very well... As for the 2 cycle oil is is a viable fuel additve as a lubricant and used properly it will not harm your fuel system. Being that is clean ashless oil and used at a very low ratio.

limited to the 94-98 cummins? strange... Guess what, I've owned a Duramax, I liked it. That's why they make different models. Some people like to tout the cummins name to the bitter end. Others don't mind what kinda engine and buy a vehicle based on the TRUCK, not just the engine. Are you saying Dodge's quality of the 94-98 model trucks (Or any year IMHO) is up to par? And for the Challenged/Challenger thing. Read through the thread, didn't I say I'd never call him that? Sorry I've pissed you off so bad. But this is the internet, you can read other topics. P.S. I own not only my cummins, but a VW diesel in a samurai. A 10hp changfa diesel engine. A 7hp Lister-pettier diesel. And likely we'll own another VW car with a TDI. I've owned GM 6.2's and 6.5's, a duramax, a powerstroke, and a Isuzu PUP diesel. So I've had/have a few flavors of diesel. Didn't know it was a crime to enjoy one truck more that I've owned in the past. I don't see any more valuable information to come in this thread. There's a clear line of people on the topic. This leads to nothing but further namecalling and disputes. Simple line is this, it's your truck. Do what you want.
