BTW, I too have heard about that 700 degree cracking by some guy on the BITOG forums, and the process and its final result appears to be the real deal, but a bit more complicated than I am willing to step into at this point. As for now, I am enjoying my own forays into using WMO as fuel, building my own high efficiency filtration system, making new connections for WMO acquisition, etc. Seems a heckuva lot less work than making biodiesel and the cost per gallon is literally next to nothing once the filtration system is constructed. Since motor oil contains over 10 thousand more BTU's per gallon than diesel fuel itself, it actually adds noticeably to the power my truck makes. It's a seat-of-the-pants difference.

How long have you owned that 64 'vette? Is it a drum braked car? I drove one of those for a while. For having drums and not discs, the brakes were surprizingly effective
Good points, for me the wmo fuel subject is a bigger issue than I wanted to let on.It could probably be settled by a few slides under a microscope, collectively as a cummins forum it is very important to get a clear answer good or bad with no ambiguity at all, because if we think it is good and it isn't then we are wrecking cummins engines, and in effect promoting something that is destuctive to other cummins engines, pickups to semis, these ideas can take off in a huge wave(think subprime, some similarities, more serious for sure, but I still can't believe that anyone would buy into that, but millions did) So are we as a forum going to be part of a wave that destroy these engines, devalues our own trucks, create a bad name for cummins engines over all, makes it harder to know if the future used truck we want to buy is close to being toast, become the laughing stock of forums for promoting the destruction of our own trucks. the vettes a rush, the drum brakes work good, don't care for the single master cyl

I think the reason it keeps coming up is because there are other people who have ran it for tens of thousands of miles and have saved umpteen hundred dollars on fuel.. Which being $150 to fill the dodge, it really would pay for anything that messed up... Besides that, the only thing I can see is selling it to someone who is going to care for it and run 8 different oil filters on it, etc, etc, and then has things go wrong because the previous owner dumped oil in it.. But as long as you tell them, and they are planning on doing the same thing...I see no problem.. The people with 20000 miles on WMO running it 50/50, say 20MPG, 35 gallon fillup.... would take $4430 on all diesel or $2215 on 50/50 which means you saved $2215, which is plenty to get anything that breaks, especially on a 1st gen.. And then theres those that have gone over 50k without anything breaking... But what do you think is worse, oil with tiny particles, or lube ridden ULSD?? I never heard of anything failing on WMO, but everyday it seems someone on ULSD trashed another VP44...

Judging by your responses, you are either one of those clowns who won't drive his truck in the rain, has every oil change and tire presure check logged in your owners manual, drives 5 mph below the speedlimit, or you are a closet oil burner yourself.

I've got ~55 gallons I need to do something with. I'm going to try a new way of filtering.

None of the above, i need to be able to depend on my trucks to go coast to coast, trouble is a funny thing it finds us easy enough without going looking for it

Just ordered a centrifuge. Should be here in a couple of days. Another new toy to play with.

very cool!

I have two of those on my "want list", one for WMO alternative fuels, one for the truck itself.

It's actually an acme juicerator from ebay. It will do the same thing though. I'm on a fixed navy income so I can't spend alot every month unless I go months without spending anything.

I recently just purchased my first Diesel which is an 07 5.9. From the advice in these forums I just put in my first quart of 2-stroke oil and I am pleased thus far. It seems like everyone is mostly after some cost saving and running used oil sounds fine assuming the appropriate filtration, but what about new oil? I saw an add recently where after rebate I could get some cheap brand of 5w30 for .69 a quart after rebate. Thats only 2.76 a gallon. Whats to stop me from buying a bunch of cases and dumb 6 or 7 quarts in per tank. Small savings yes but why not?

ya new oil is even better, you don't gotta mess with it at all. I've done that before, picked up a couple cases real cheap from G.I. Joes. I was putting them in the tank in the parking lot and i got some real funny looks.

Oh ya, and the lighter weight of oil the better. If it's 10 or 20 weight oil i'll run my truck on it straight. 30 or higher i usually mix w/ 5 or 10% diesel

I have a question for those that are worried about non-magnetic metals in the WMO and those who burn WMO (pretty much everybody): Do you think that these particles are smaller than 1 micron? if they aren't there shouldn’t be a problem with non-magnetic particles suspended in WMO if it is filtered to 1 micron, correct?

The particles are defiantly smaller than 1 micron. After the oil filters through all three of my filters 20-10-1 micron, it passes by a set of computer hard drive magnets. There is always a noticable layer of very fine magnetic metal on it. Which tells me that it is indeed smaller than 1 micron.

The only way to sufficiently filter out particles smaller than this is to use a centrifuge. Now most people will argue that these particles will cause damage to the engine. They are right, but it will take some time. These sub micron particles of wearable metal from engines will errode the injection pump, nozzles, and very likely be depositing small amounts of metal on top of the piston and exhaust turbine.
