Gear Oil?

How many quarts for the rear and the front? Book says 90w but can you go to the 110 or 140? I have a 2006 2500.Thanks

i just did mine today and it took a little under 7 quarts. filled to the botton of the fill hole. i used the amsoil 90w.

You can go 110 or 140 with no problems.

If you go with a higher gear oil you risk not getting the proper flow to cool the front bearring, There will be a power loss as the oil will not flow out the same and the main one is that the oil will channel when it is cold, and you get no lube.

I run the AMSOIL 75W110 Severe Gear. The 110 is the new API spec that many manufacturers are beginning to favor over the 75W90.

question in my truck i was told to use
85w-90? Is it better to go with a higher or lower weight

Unless you're pulling heavy loads on a pretty regular basis, you can get away with running a premium 75W90 with no problems. It's lighter, will flow better, and should bump your overall mileage a bit as well.

I went with the amsoil 75-140 for my 2500 rear diff, as I use it for towing all summer, works for me

Since AMSOIL doesn't have any paraffin in it, running a 75W110 won't hurt your mileage. It will also protect better than a 90 weight. But 75W90 or 75W110 would work fine for you. Back when your truck was build, the API spec for 75W110 didn't exist. Now a 110 spec does exist, and many new trucks call for it now. I run the 110 in my 2002 CTD.

so i will be fine using Royal Ppurple 75w-90
