i just did mine today and it took a little under 7 quarts. filled to the botton of the fill hole. i used the amsoil 90w.

2006 2500 qclb, 6-speed, amsoil nano filter, torque tube gutted, silencer ring mia, muffler delete, amsoil front 2back, line-x, more to come

If you go with a higher gear oil you risk not getting the proper flow to cool the front bearring, There will be a power loss as the oil will not flow out the same and the main one is that the oil will channel when it is cold, and you get no lube.

I run the AMSOIL 75W110 Severe Gear. The 110 is the new API spec that many manufacturers are beginning to favor over the 75W90. -Chuck

question in my truck i was told to use 85w-90? Is it better to go with a higher or lower weight

Unless you're pulling heavy loads on a pretty regular basis, you can get away with running a premium 75W90 with no problems. It's lighter, will flow better, and should bump your overall mileage a bit as well.
