Tex,
I seem to be in about the same stage of the bio journey as you are and now see you are from the Austin area too. I'm going to PM you offline and maybe we can work towards the end goal together. I'm going to go visit some possible wvo suppliers today to see if this is even a reality.

The closer you can get to a refinery , the better , but buying in volume is also the way to go , at least 55 gal drums , unless you can do a tanker load ?
All this stuff is constantly changing , price spikes in winter , but also , about last fall with bio becoming more of an issue , so planning ahead , as late into spring [ for the price ] then buy as much as you can to go for the yr [ this is if you can get together with others & buy at the best price/time & bulk ] .
Race tracks are one of the most common sources to hook up with suppliers & buyers .
But remember to keep an eye out for what grade ? the better grade makes better fuel with less methanol , from what I have come across , Tech is the better avalable & most common for racing , M1 lesser grade .

When you build your mini bio-plant add a methanol recover system. Will be able to recover some of the methanol through condensation and reuse it.

It is normally about 20% methanol to your oil , the lye or acid is what varies , depending on titration testing .
Some videos on making , also one of the best sources for equipment info ect. Biodiesel Tutorial Videos - Utah Biodiesel Supply

yes thanks for the video link, i have been doing a lot of reading on the utah biodiesel site. they have some great stuff.

so for a 40 gal batch i would need about 8 gal of methanol? i know things depend on the titration and all, i just mean in general.

Here are a list of distributors for Tracktec Racing Fuel with several in Austin/Waco area. Browders Race Fuel - Area Distributors I have not called them yet to see if they sell methanol. Is "methanol" the term they use or is there a secret race fuel code word?

I was told that New Energy Fuels on Houston is a good place to get methanol. i called but it went to voice mail. maybe they will call back.

i will let everyone know what they say

there is a place in Bryan that will sell it for $240+20 barrel deposit if you buy 2 or more barrels. for 1 is $270+20
