That was a great episode! They had a fuel heater, (pipes running thru fuel tank) however, to keep "pure vegitable oil" from gelling.

I only run my own B100 through my 6.7. Love it! Since i have a new, common rail truck i go through extra steps in my process and lots of testing to make sure my bio is high quality. I get a little less mileage but i make each batch for around $1.05 a gallon. And no money for terrorists!

Give it a try but do alot of research and dont rush batches!

Biocide is a good product for dino, too. For the same reasons. This is kind of a rough thread, info wise. I second Sparks280zt. Great book. No net "wisdom". You should really get a book if you are thinking about it anyhow. Most people who are thinking about it will be entertained by a book, and will learn all they need to know, without any disinformation. It's a really light read, too.

I ran my first tank of b99 from a station near where i live about a month ago, not a single problem. I got an extra filter on hand and everything i would need to change the filter out on the side of road in the event of an emergency. it WILL drop your MPG a bit from the lower BTU of bio vs petrol and it will make your engine run with less knock

alright to address a few things, firstly, I have run bio in my old CR and it ran amazing. I had zero issues with it once so ever. I ran it for 20k or so which isnt all that many miles but again I had zero problems. I sold that truck and now have a 94 f350 with a 95 12valve in it. The only problems that I have had nothing to with the biodiesel at all.

I know that there hasnt been a million tests and all that type of stuff saying that bio is 100% full proof but based on my experience I wouldnt hesitate to run it in any of my trucks. My friends run the same bio in a 7.3, 6.0, 6.5, and 6.6 all diesels from different companies. I can also say that I am by no means a chemist, the stuff just isnt that hard to make! Also i believe that its a great idea to get a book and read about everything before you start dumping bio in, personally I did. I read how to make it and went for it, I learn alot quicker from hands on experimenting.

So you want to know the bad of biodiesel????

1) i drive and am constantly hungry
2) its messy as crap!

thats all

I hear you with the constantly hungry! I fill up at a station around where I live that carries B20, and it always smells like donuts when I start my truck up!

Biodiesel will soften some fuel lines BEWARE THIS CAN GET BAD. And it will eat paint. I get less fuel efficiency (1.5 to 2mpg) and more lag, but significantly less smoke. I plugged up the first filter, and changed the second just to make sure as the bio cleaned the deposits out of my tank. I also got a smoother idle and more power as it cleaned out my injector tips, but this didn't make much difference as I did 100 hp sticks not too long after that. I have noticed that in non-turbo trucks, there seems to be no noticeable loss of power-but my assessment is based on an IDI truck which runs MUCH higher compression.

My power/efficiency losses may in part be due to the wvo the bio is made from. Longer chain triglycerides make longer chain hydrocarbon biodiesel. Which like petro, means lower cetane rating. I am sure it still is much higher cetane than petro, but maybe not as high as bio made from virgin oil. (Waste oil "hydrogenates" making the chains longer)

Amen! to the "... no money for terrorists..".

I started brewing in 2005 for my 1990 Cummins, with no problems. I've burned 100% biodiesel in my 2007 6.7 since day one. I also take extra care to produce quality fuel. I stopped mist washing fuel with the new truck & bought a ion resign filtration system instead. My last 100 gal batch cost me $1.24/gal to brew.

The only down side I've seen is that it takes a little work & time. But it feels good not buying bullets & bombs for terrorists to kill our sons & daughters fighting in the Middle East each time we fill up.

I run whatever in my truck, a 2nd gen. I've not problems with fuel filter clogging, though I did replace it recently nor fuel lines.

The bad about biodiesel:
There's a bit less energy, specifically btu/gallon is less. Fuel economy goes down a bit.
It's a solvent, can harm paint
It can free up gook in your fuel tank and clog your fuel filter
Rubber fuel lines can be degraded. Most modern diesels have viton.

The good:
The engine runs more smoothly
Smells like french fries, atleast the stuff made from waste oil does. The virgin soy oil based B20 I run smells weird and not like french fries at all. Still smells better than #2
Political benefits, if you're into that sort of thing.
Environmental benefits, if you're into that sort of thing.
