got an little interview for school for those of you using bio-diesel
here are the questions. i know some may simple to answer but just answer as many as possible there are only 15 of themi would like to thank anyone and everyone who answers any or all of the following questions. 1. How has using bio-diesel affected you? 2. Has using an alternate fuel made you consider buying another diesel poered vehicle to save money with better fuel mileage? 3. Do you make your bio-diesel or buy it pre made? 4. Has switching off of #2 effected your truck in a negative way? 5. Did you fuel mileage increase when you switched? 6. What made you switch fuels? 7.Did you do any research before switching? 8.How did you find out about bio-diesel? 9. Do you think there will eventually be a cost for the used grease? 10. Do you know anyone else, who is considering doing the same thing? 11. Do you see this as temporary or permanent? 12. What are some other alternate fuel sources? 13. Do you think the president will push for research on bio-diesel? 14. Do you have to pay for the waste grease? 15. Have you considered veggie oil for fuel?

Not much - these trucks have metal fuel lines - any rubber lines in the mix would need to be replaced with synthetic (alcohol compatible) lines - biodiesel will melt the normal rubber. Plan on either flushing the fuel tank or going through a few filters - a 11 year old truck probably has deposits formed in the fuel tank and the biodiesel will work as a great solvent to clean them out - and clog some filters. For WVO: You want to heat up the grease before pushing it through your injection pump. 150*-160* F is a good temperature to shoot for. At that point the viscosity is fairly close to that of diesel. Most people use secondary tanks, several heating systems - ending in a coolant-based heat exchanger. You can run a secondary pump - or tap into the stock fuel pump. Where you drive dictates how much heating you need and where you need it. Also - if you end up getting partially hydrogenated oil - or have to deal with snow and ice in the winter, you'll need a heated tank, heated fuel lines, a heated filter and that final heat exchanger.
