Is this propane setup going to be safe for heavy towing? I pull a 5 horse gooseneck and I'm looking for something to gain mileage and/or decrease fuel costs. I filled up this morning and it was $4.04 for low sulphur but there is only 5 stations in the state that sell the low sulphur, the ulsd is $4.17.OUCH!!!

How safe is propane for a diesel engine? im really looking for better mpg but a few hp wouldn't hurt either, im just more concerned about doing damage to my truck than anything.

Update on DPI.
Monday I received the controller back from MSD, and got it installed after work. Tuesday, I filled the tank with 12-gallons of propane (about 3/4 tank). The cost with tax was $28.40 or 2.27 per gallon.
I drove about 15 miles back to work, and the over head MPG was showing around 30 MPG? (unloaded.) After work, when I got home I could smell propane and started double checking the connections. I found the fitting at my propane filter was leaking (the fitting split down the side.) Thankfully the propane tank has the electrionc shut-off at the tank so when the truck (or propane system) are shut-off, it closes.
Anyhow, I am not sure how much propane the leak wasted. A trip to Lowes Hardware for a new fitting and the problem was fixed.
So far I only have about 50 miles on the system, but in combined highway and city driving, the overhead is showing an increase of around 10+ MPG over what it normally reads. This is whith the propane settings at 50%, starting at 3psi of boost.

Even at 50%, you can tell there is extra power. I set it to come in at 3psi because the truck actually gets decent fuel mialage when driven at boost levels below that.

The big question is how to setup the propane settings for best combined fuel mialage? Adding more propane, or adding it earlier will show increases in Diesel Mialage, but use more propane.

Anyhow, I should be drag racing the truck Friday, and my put a few hundred miles on it over the weekend. This should get me some more data points for comparison, and allow me to hand calculate the mialage.

Kinda an old thread but I didnt wat to start a new one. Im putting together my DIY Propane kit and need to know about the kind of hose everyone is useing. Will regular fuel line work for the low pressure side? Its not the pressure I worry about. Will the propane eat the lines at all? I dont think so cause if Gasoline wont I dont think propane will. Do yall think that Fuel line will be ok? Also, how are yall connecting the propane feed nozzle to the air box? Pics would be good.

propane doesn't have any corrosive properties compared to that of diesel or gas so I'm thinking your safe. How much are you building this kit for?? Share the wealth...

So far, I have zero dollars in it and only still need the lines and the boost switch. I had most of the things I needed laying around. I used a spare Acetylene regulator I had, a spare propane tank I had, and pulled an electric bottle opener valve off of an old RV. 1/4" Fuel line is $0.70 per foot and the boost switch is ~$25 on E-bay.
