Why would you put diesel in your tranny?

Exactly, so why would you put ATF in your engine.

Well, if you guys are that serious about putting ATF in your fuel, why don't you just use Marvel Mystery Oil at it's recommended strength?? It's basically the same formulation as ATF, just without the harmful, non-fuel system additives commonly found in most types of trans fluid. And, here's something you might try and find interesting. If you have any Marvel Mystery Oil around, take a clear bottle and pour a little bit of it in and....viola! Guess what?? The MMO looks just like ATF...not a coincidence, hehehe. It's been a long standing fact that ATF was a good lubricity agent for diesel engines. The only drawback was the harmful additives. MMO just took the ball and ran with it. Well, I'll tell you from experience using MMO straight, full-strength, one-third quart (10.5 oz give or take), it really worked pretty good. Bumped my fuel mileage a bit too. So, before you go dumping Brand-X ATF fluid in your tank, maybe try the MMO straight and see what you think. Just my $.02

Causes it's cheap not necessarly the best. I have used Standyne Performance Formula in mine only in the winter to help with gelling.

Adding AFT is a leftover from the days when ATF was just oil and designed for diesel fuel additives weren't available.
Modern ATF is designed not to burn and will leave damaging ash deposits in your engine with little benefit.
Most of the guys recommending it are over 75 years old or heard from somebody over 75 years old.
Step into the present.

This from Dave Fritz's site

Any red dye in a tank of fuel is detectable by the sampler the DOT uses, even when diluted by a large quantity of undyed fuel. As little as 1/2 qt of ATF in a tank of fuel will be detected as untaxed fuel and can cause a major headache for the driver.

IF your GAS motor is having lifter noise....then running half to a full quart of ATF in the place of a quart of oil for ONE oil change interval can clean out the lifter SOMETIMES enough to keep it quiet....i have to do this on my explorer for lifter noise about once a year........but in a diesel....especially a modern diesel....there are too many detergents and the ATF is not near thick enough to run at all....it will just cause nothing but problems.....and i would NEVER put ANYTHING in your fuel but cetane additive........Marc

keep your ATF in your transmission!

i have ran ATF in my fuel for several years because i was told the crappy fuel needed extra lube. it served its purpose & did increase fuel mileage. the problems didnt come until modern technology brought the new injectors with o-rings. as anyone who has used ATF in place of power steering fluid knows, it will swell rubber parts. it only took me one (1) round of replacing injectors because the o-rings swelled to learn that i had been mis-informed about running ATF in fuel. this is a bad idea & reminds me of something mom said when i was young. if all your friends are gonna jump off a bridge, are you going to? im alot more careful who i listen to now.
