Dino is conventional oil. I don't know if there's any particular brand you prefer but I was using Rotella-T then switched to the Valvoline Premium Blue 15W40 and really like the change it made. Starts on cold mornings are smoother and it just tends to keep it's lubricity (thickness) better. I was going to try a synthetic too but after doing a lot of research and seeing what kind of $$$ the syth was gonna cost every oil change, I decided to stay with a conventional and change at regular intervals. The Premium Blue was developed by Valvoline with Cummins input, tested in Cummins engines during development, and is recommended and endorsed by them. I get it at Advanced Auto for around $7.97 a gallon. You might want to check their website to learn more about it. Here's a link to the Premium Blue page at Valvoline. http://www.valvoline.com/pages/produ...sp?product=102 Chevron Delo is also a good choice. And, before you jump to conclusions about using synthetic, most of the people I know personally that have MEGA miles (i.e. 500,000-750,000 miles) on the ticker all have done it using conventional oil changed at intervals of 3,000-5,000 miles. Hope this helps

I have used rotella, valvoline, delvac, and delo conventional oils. All seem to do very well. The valvoline seemed to get darker than the others changing at 5k mile intervals. I don't know if this is a good thing or bad. Maybe that is telling that the oil is removing deposits better. Don't know. I wouldn't change to synthetics seeing what they cost. Althought I only have 42k on my truck, my brother has a 89 model ctd with 500k and a 96 ctd with 240k and never ran anything but delo in both of them with no problems. I don't know how many more miles you could gain using synthetics. Alot of people swear by synthetics though.

no oil wars.but the best, and what thinks to hold up the best for me in all my diesel, and all the tractors we ran on the ranch growing up is DELO 15-40w multiegrade. and all the cummins techs used it, and swore by it back home. but all the above oils, except for the valvoline. i have heard some say the break down was more on there lab results.
