I'm not sure weather or not sulfur ADDED lubricity to the fuel, but the reason ULSD has less lubricity is the process by which sulfur is removed. The diesel fuel is hydrogenated which removes much of the lubricity of the fuel.

Actually what strips the fuel of its lubricity is the process that is used in removing the sulfur. I used 2 stroke oil in my 7.3 (1oz per gal) and it was good for 1mpg on average interstate driving and it made it a little quieter than without it. I credit the mpg increase to the fact that is raises the BTU value of the fuel and like the idea of lubricating my fuel system and injectors considering the ULSF we have to run now. A good fuel additive will do the same as the two stroke oil, i use Stanadyne with great results.

I guess not, I wish I had a friend I could quote, but I have no friends.

And it's like I said he might be wrong as well. Just because his job IS sulfur content doesn't mean he knows about its lubricity. But I think he SHOULD know. No biggie either way.

As stated above sulfur is not a lubricant. However, the process used to remove the sulfur also depletes the natural lubricating properties of the diesel. The refinery is supposed to re-add lubricants to the diesel, but you know how well they can be trusted. Also, I would much rather run low sulfur diesel and add two stroke oil than to have the old high sulfur fuel. The sulfur combines with the combustion byproducts in the engines oil to create sulfuric acid especially in short trip and excessive idling applications

At $10.00 a gal, it only costs $1.25 to add 16oz. If your get +1 mpg that's $1.25 to go an extra 34-35 miles. It will pay for itself with the savings. I gained mpg at 16oz per tank, lost when I added 32oz per tank. On a common rail i would recommend 16oz.

If the fuel your buying is like the stuff around here you will hear a notable difference in the sound of your engine. All for the better

Search more and you will see that the refining process necessary to remove sulfur unfortunately lowers the lubrication quality of the fuel. Do some research on HFRR (High Frequency Reciprocating Rig) testing.

Hydroprocessing (refining) removes sulfur and significant amounts of polar and aromatic compounds that give conventional diesel fuel adequate lubricating capability. The refiners will add lubricants back into the fuel to meet the ASTM D975 standards for lubricity. Like any other company they are a bunch of penny pinchers, dont expect anything beyond bare minimum.

I run 16 oz every tank and I've noticed 2-3 mpg increase, The problem with the newer Diesel Fuel is they've cut down the sulfer to lower the emissions, The sulfer Is what gives the fuel the lubrication the engine needs, so Adding the TCW-3 2 stroke motor oil, Adds the lubrication back to the fuel... And it adds some SMOKE too....... I just buy the Cheap gallons at walmart, they are in the blue bottles......
