Keep a good fuel lubricant handy in the winter months... (6 Barrels hidden behind a local fuel station...)

Which happen to be...

Some of the winter anti-gel additives can be rather harsh on the fuel system...

Hey,

Do you happen to have other pictures of the switches??? Trying to figure out where you mounted them!!!

Let me make sure I've got this straight:

1. I need the re-flash from the dealer!!!! That's simple enough!!

2. I need to build these fouler switches b/c the factory one doesn't work too good????!!!!!?????

3. If I don't have the fouler system the truck could suffer damage from idling in the winter time??? B/C is doesn't warm up???!!!!????

4. After the engine is warm it doesn't hurt to idle or does it????

Sorry to but I'm still a little confused!!! I thinking I'm getting it... I think!!!

Thanks,
Winslow

Just right of the hood latch... Bottom of dash...

Let me make sure I've got this straight:

1. I need the re-flash from the dealer!!!! That's simple enough!!

Yes...

2. I need to build these fouler switches b/c the factory one doesn't work too good????!!!!!?????

No... it works fine but the switch give you full control over it compared to waiting for the weather to get cold enough.

3. If I don't have the fouler system the truck could suffer damage from idling in the winter time??? B/C is doesn't warm up???!!!!????

Extended idle operation, especially in cold weather, can lead to stuck valves and bent push-tubes due to insufficient cylinder heat. This allows varnishes/oils to condense on the exhaust valve stems, leading to stuck valves, and damaged valve train components. A new software feature, enabled or disabled through the DRB III (See instructions under Repair Procedure), reduces the chance of valve sticking and improves cab heat warm-up time.

4. After the engine is warm it doesn't hurt to idle or does it????

No... But sometimes its cold enough to drag the engine coolant back down below 170*F but the high idle system won't re-start till it get below 140*F so you can manually trigger it again by kicking both switches...

Sorry to but I'm still a little confused!!! I thinking I'm getting it... I think!!!

Thanks,
Winslow

Hey,

Thanks!!!!!

You said "it works fine but the switch give you full control over it compared to waiting for the weather to get cold enough"

Does that mean it is good to kick the high idle on even if the weather isn't below 32 degrees???

It doesn't get below 10 or so around here too often!!!

Thanks again,
Winslow

Like this morning if I was going to leave I would of kick the switch. The morning temp was 45*F and in not quite cold enough to trip it. Actually you need it cold enough that the IAT sees with grid heater goes below 32*F so its about 22-25*F just for high idle. Then in right round 5*F for 3 cylinder... The grid heater tend to offset it...

Then another exapmle...

Like on this accident I had my red beacon going, headlights, fog lamps, hazards, etc... The high idle kept the alternator charging.

Hey,

Ok I understand the alternator thing, but why would you trip the high idle if you aren't planning to idle the engine longer than 5-10 minutes?????

Sorry for !!!

Thanks,
Winslow

Hey,

I've got an appointment to get the computer reflashed next Monday. He said they've never done an '01 but have done newer trucks... that's a little scary!!!! I'll have to keep an eye on them!!

He said $40 to do it!!! That's not too bad. I wish I had a Smarty then I just do that and add some power!!!!

Thanks,
Winslow

Or..........you could cut a stick to the appropreate length to put between the seat and the gas pedal.

Had one of those... It sucked... Always found the stick laying on the floor and it wasn't high idling anymore.

Then it never shutdown on it own it just kept running...

Call me lazy...
