I wondered the same but what I saw was that the long life has the ability to run 500k in commercial / over the road trucks...I feel that either is good and I use both (only because my stash was not enough to cover my sons truck and I installed the long life in his 93' F150 since a local dealer had it on the shelf), I even thought they appeared the same in color and flow (weights were same)....I would use either in confidence....But again maybe DD has a more technical description

Amsoil "severe gear" oils do not require friction modifiers , normally but they do have an additive if required....h.t.h...Fred

but what do i know I am still runing the factory oil atleast 'till 100K

Only 2500 more to go.....

Wohoss,

Don't know what year truck you have but the gear oil that was in my 06 was thin like 5w oil so was very glad to have changed it out at 10K. After seeing what they used I sure as heck would not run the factory gear oil for 100K and IIRC Dodge recommends it to be changed every 30K.. IIRC most quality synthetic gear oil already has friction modifier blended in and why most don't add it unless they have chatter.

here's 36,000 miles on oem lube, replaced with royal purple 70wt-90. to do it again I wouldn't go over 15,000 (10,000 if heavy useage) on oem lube. Going to run Royal Purple to 30,000 & change.

No increase in MPG

I have 2006 2500 4x4 How many quarts for front and rear and do you need a tube of some kind to siphon out the gear oil. Im looking at severe gear 75/90. Ive been using 15/40 marine with ea filter on oil changes and been happy. Its time to change the gear oil. 43,500 on truck right now.
