Certain oil for nv4500/gear vendors?

I just got a gear vendors overdrive unit. I called and got a part number for the lubricant. I went to Dodge and got it (along with a $25 receipt) and it says its formulated for the nv4500. Its a synthetic transmission fluid. Does anyone know if there is a cheaper fluid that would work just as well? To buy one of these new, it will run about $3200 so I really can't chance it. But I bought it to gain some fuel mileage and spending $25 every 5k miles will offset my gains.I could use some advice. Thanks.

Amsoil Manual Transmission & Transaxle (MTG) Gear Lube 75W-90, the retail price is $12.85 a qt ( you can buy it cheaper) and it should also last longer then 5,000 miles. What does the owners manual show for drain interval as I would think that its longer then 5,000 miles.

About MTG:

Ideal for NV-4500 Transmissions
MTG is a thermally stable, extreme pressure formulation that resists heat, oxidation, acid build-up and varnish. It is the ideal gear lube for high temperature applications, including the New Venture NV-4500 transmission, which retains heat due to its cast iron housing and is often subjected to heavy loads and high torque from turbo-diesel engines.

AMSOIL MTG is the replacement fluid for GM part #12346190 and Chrysler part #4874459 (Chrysler specification #MS-9070).

I never got the manual but on the web site, it says every 5k. Also, the Chrysler # is 04874459.

FWIW, I did get a manual recently (call Gear Vendors and request one!) and the manual says to change the oil at 10,000 mile intervals (and clean the filters). I did notice the website says, "Recommended service interval - change fluid every 5,000 miles depending on severity of duty". The website also says, "Fluid type - GM#1052271 petroleum based or GM#12346190 synthetic" but does not mention the Mopar synthetic oil - #04874459.
Maybe you can go 10,000 depending on severity of use and the synthetic oil? Call Gear Vendors, they have been helpful to me so far. I would be interested in the answer as well. I will go 10,000 on my fluid changes because I do not tow or haul.
