rockyford708,

You can get filters from a Cummins shop or on line at Geno Garage. As for oil any name brand CJ-4 oil will work your engine like Delo 400, Valvoline Blue, Mobil Delvac and for full synthetics Amsoil and Redline.

How is (valvoline multipurpose 2 cycle engine oil) Because I didnt see it on the list and I was out fuelling up and wanted to try it and thats what I got. It bumped me from 18.4 to 20.1 empty and 11.3 to 14.3 towing. But I read that list again and didnt see the velvoline oil so I didnt want to keep using it if its not good for the engine. Here is a pic of the bottle.

I don't see any reason why not... I'm still using Wal-Mart's Supertech... I'm up to 21-23 MPG...

Trust me 2 cycle oil WILL NOT degrade MPG or performance as people say... Check my sig...

Here is how I look at it...

INJECTOR CLEANERS
If you need to run injector cleaner you need to change fuel filters or get a better fuel filter (2 micron). Injector cleaners are not required or needed. Most of them reduce the lubricity of the fuel even more. (Increase the HFRR value). 2 Cycle oil will not harm any truck fuel system designed for LSD (500 ppm).

CETANE BOOSTERS
Cetane booster are not required either. Most cetane booster reduce the BTU value of the fuel and give less power. Just look at winter time fuel we all complain about lower MPG and power. This is because the winterized fuel is highier in cetane value. 2 Cycle oil tend to increase the BTU value and decrease the cetane value.

ANTI-GEL (Pour Point Depressants)
Not needed either. 2 Cycle oils ones made for snowmobiles tend to have a extremely low pour point around -40*F to -50*F and tend to act as a good anti-gel product.

So if you look at the table you find that most name brand additives failed the HFRR testing...

thanks to you i just got 21.3 mpg's, averaged over 3 fillups. Used to get 17.8.

i dump a quart of valvoline for every tankful.

Here is some interesting stuff, years ago on the farm we had some stuff that we bought from the texas lubricant company. It was called "zip", its bright red like died diesel and has a real strong sulfer smell to it. We used it for a couple of years in our tractors and pickups, it helped the mileage alot. After a couple of years or so they quit selling it and we could not get it anymore. Well I have about 3 gallons of the stuff that I kept, it still has the strong sulfer smell to it. I have tried it in my 2004 cummins and it seemed to help but it gives it a clicking sound when I use it and my Quadzilla power chip. Have you guys ever heard of this stuff.
