I was just talking to a guy last nite who was telling me about doing this, not in a dodge but rather a semi. Also he told me about people running mineral oil as well. I personally would never do this but some people have more $$$ to spend on fixing things then I do.

Yes it is safe, run it through a filter first/strainer type deal to make sure it's clean. I used to use a gallon per fill up. And of course pour it in first, so the fuel will mix together.

Whitmore is right, Like I said make sure it is clean, run it through a strainer/filter first. If you don't want to filter it then don't use it. Other then that it's good lube and you are recycling.

i definantly wouldn't do it. what are you going to gain from it that you can't gain from 2 stroke oil? not to mention the time it takes to filter all of it and wow what it would do to your fuel filter. and if its synthetic you definantly can't do it. i wouldnt risk it.

The only reason why I don't like the idea is...
  • Any metal particles with be picked up by the magnets in the LP pump.
  • It's dirty oil. The dirt is in suspension in the oil.
As for lubricating the fuel system...
  • Use clean oil. ND-30W or 2-Cycle Oil. NO SYNTHETICS!
Don't Use...
  • Synthetics Oils of any kind... ATF, Engine Oil, 2 Cycle Oil, Etc.
  • ATF and Gear Oil... (Friction modifiers, etc)
More information on this subject...

Whitmore... think about it... Soot size would have to just below the filtering limit of the filter... So what ever the filter is good down to the soot is going to be just a bit smaller...

Think about something else too... That's why we use oil that rated for diesel engines... It keeps the soot and dirty in supension so it can be filtered off... But if the particle is small enough it will pass through the filer and remain floating in the oil... Regardless if its synthetic or Dino oil...

There are some diehard 1st gen owners that do it without any problems. But look at the pumps they got. Mechanical LP and that indistructible P-pump! Something you can't kill easy as a VP44...
