Diesel IM testing??

I know we are not required to smog our trucks yet but any wind of plans in the works by Alaska to have us submit to IM testing in the future? The reason I ask is because I plan on doing the DPF/EGR deletes very soon.

Heard a rumor they may get rid of IM, I guess it depends on if the tree huggers get in or not. Has anybody else heard this?? Maybe just wishful thinking!

There has been talk of getting rid of the IM program. There was a article in the paper last year. That is the last I heard of it. I don't think it is going anywhere. The feds still say we have a air quality problem and they are the ones who say whether we must have a emmsions program.

That being said I would not worry about modifying your diesel. Even if a program for diesels was put in place I would think that it would not be retroactive.

Just save your parts and put them back on if needed.

UP DATE.
After wasting I don't know how many $100,000's on a study that says we don't need it anymore, our illustrious dictators of the MOA have decided to keep it in place. A money maker for the municipality don't you know. As far as any changes to it? Your guess is as good as mine at this point. It all depends on who replaces Baggage on the MOA throne.

I was told in a recent class on Powerjokes that the feds will probally mandate IM testing diesels in 2010 and the Instructor said any local that has an IM program will have to test diesels too so dont throw away those parts!

Word is that it will be going away toward the end of the year. A lady that works with me was telling me because her husband works for the IM place here in Fairbanks.
