Thinking about buying land in Alaska

My fiance and I have been talking about buying some land to build us a small summer cabin to get away from everything.

I was looking at OTC land sales (Over The Counter Subdivision Land Sale)

Since I'm not real familiar with Alaska and we're just now starting to look. Right now we're planing on purchasing next spring/summer; when we have time to fly up there and check everything out before hand.

I was thinking the "South Central Region" - From my reading the summers are nice ranging form 40's to the 80's which would be a NICE break from these 100º+ days we've had all summer here in Texas.

So anyways, What should I know about buying land in Alaska? - I'd like to get as far away from other people as I possibly can

When you say far away do you intend of flying in to no mans land? Or still being able to drive in? Big difference of getting away from folks.

The OTC is the left overs from the land auctions. The lots no one wanted. If you thinking of buying in South central, hold on to your britches.

I was figuring on having to fly in but honestly I don't know. Being able to drive in - even if its by ATV would be a lot more convenient for building a cabin and such in my opinion..

This is all new stuff for me (buying and land such) since I've been an apartment dweller since I moved out my parents house.

I'm pretty much just looking for some guidance on where I should be looking - I'm not stuck on South/Central.. I was just told the weather in that area is more mild

Point me in the right direction here

I would look in Willow, Petersville, and Caswell Creek. You will be able to buy land on the road system and not be around anyone. All those places are less than 100 miles from Anchorage.

It would be a whole lot easier to build something on the road system.

depending on what kinda stuff you want to do, cantwell, and the matanuska glacier area's are cool too. Lots of fish in the Cantwell area.

thats dead of winter weather for me.. I'd have to get out the leather jacket, beanie/hat and gloves at the very least

When it gets below 40 it becomes a chore for me to leave the house lol
