Smile Going to Chattanooga

Me and my wife are going to Chattanooga for our anniversary next weekend. Any of you North Alabama guys know of any little known attractions or pretty scenic stops in NE Bama. We are going to take are time headed up there and were wondering what we could do on our way there and back. I was thinking of going up on the interstate and maybe coming back following the river down thru Scottsboro and Guntersville then head back to Gadsden on 431. Anybody got some good ones? Anything around Fort Payne or Sand Mountain?
