AirDog 100 Installation

I just got done installing my AirDog 100 the other day and figured I'd show you the install.

The first setep was to attach the AirDog mount the the frame. I decided to tilt the mount at an angle to clear existing lines. I then installed the pump then filters. The fitings went on next.

I ran the fuel return and the fuel supply along the frame rail.

The lines are zip-tied to the holes in the body mount location.

This shot shows the lines coming from the pump and splitting off to the filler neck and the tank.

This is a different angle of the filler neck.

Connection to the tank, its a QD fitting that does not require a new suction straw.

The fuel line from tank to injection pump is ran along frame rail just above stock lines.

Final fuel connection to injection pump.

The next part of this kit is the wiring harness. This is where I had the most difficulty. The instruction that were included say to connect the harnesses plug to the stock plug from stock pump... there was no 2nd plug on the included harness. A quick call to AirDog set me straight. The included harness has a "relay power lead" that connects to a 12v source that has power in the 'RUN' position (cig. lighter on dash).

Here is the Pos. and Neg. wires on drivers battery.

I mounted the relay to the fender just aft of the battery.

I routed the wire to the Cigar fuse in the fuse box under the hood. (This is a TEMP connection!) I need to find a special fuse that can piggy-backed with a accessory wire.

This is where I notched a hole in the fuse block cover for the 12v 'relay power wire'

The wire harness was ran to the pump along the frame rail attached to the fuel line. As you can see from the picture, I was very adamant about using zip-ties (thanks to being a USMC avation maintainer).

There was about 10 extra feet with this harness so I coiled the slack and tied it against the frame rail. It looks ugly and I'm going to cut the slack out when I find the time. The 3 pin plug then attaches to the plug on the AirDog.

The last eletrical thing I did was disconnect the three plugs that were attached to the stock lift pump.

Finally to bleed the lines, turn the key to the run position and watch for fuel to run out of the connection at the injector pump. Quickly tighten the fitting before you spill your life savings on the ground.

Note: Be sure to use 'diesel safe' thread sealer on all fittings. And I also decided to use blue Loc-Tite on all screws nuts and bolts for added security.:thumbsup

Good job and thanks for posting up some pics. I'm doing the same install next week. On the fuse piggyback thing my gearvendors was like that it has a little copper thing that slips over the fuse prong and sticks up so you can get a spade connector to hook onto it. I don't know what they're called or where you could get one though.

This is my permanent fix for the relay power wire. Its a BUSS fuse tap that plugs into the fuse block where you want to tap into and holds 2 fuses (sold separately). One fuse for existing fused component and the other fuse for the additional accessory. The short pigtail connects to the relay power wire. I found this tap at Advance Auto for about 5 bucks including extra fueses WELL worth it for a clean installation.

The total hours of ACTUAL work was about 4 hours. I could have installed it much quicker if I had daylight (I was working in the dark after work) and a warm garage (it was a frigid b1+CH outside!)

I recommend you thoroughly go through ALL of your parts and make sure you have EVERYTHING!!! They didn't include the QD fitting that attaches to the tank when they sent everything. I called them the next morning and they over-nighted the fitting for me. It also helps if you read the instructions 1-2 times before you dig into it. The instructions that are included are vague and generic. This is why I started this thread.

If I were to install another AirDog 100 it would probably take me no more than 2 hours in “ideal” conditions.
