3rd Gen Audio Project

Not many audio build threads on here so I figured I'd start one. I'm not going all out on SQ or SPL here. The truck is used for tailgating with the doors open quite a bit so I wanted some good speakers front and rear. This is a pretty basic install with some decent hardware. Truck has the basic non-Infinity stereo with 4 speakers.

Head Unit
Kenwood Excelon DNX 6960
DVD
Garmin Navigation
Parrot Bluetooth
iPod/iPhone integration
5 Volt Preouts

Speakers
Polk MM6501
6.5" Components
2.7 Ohm Impedance
94 dB Sensitivity
1" Silk Dome Tweeters

Amp
Rockford Fosgate Power T400-4
Rated 60w RMS x4 @ 4 ohms

MISC
All wiring is Rockford Fosgate (1 year added to amp warranty by using the RF wiring kit)

Factory Nav Bezel
Metra Install Kit 99-6510
Metra Chrysler wiring interface XSVI-6502
Metra Antenna Adaptor 40-CR10
Kenwood iPod cable KCA-iP301V

Nav bezel and my stock bezel

Before and after

Pulling the doors apart

Got the inside lined with Dynamat

Speaker Baffles 3/4" Birch

That's all I got for now.

Thanks. I put a lot of highway miles on the truck too so the BT, Nav, etc. come in handy there. But yeah, can't hardly hear the stock speakers when we're tailgating.

Looking forward to it. It's been a while since I've put a system together so I'm having fun with this.

Got a little bit more done today.

Covered the bigger holes w/ aluminum

More Dynamat

Mounted and test fit baffles and speakers.

There is slight contact between the top of the baffle and the door panel preventing the door panel from sliding home. I'll have to cut off about a 1/4" of the top of the baffle and it should work.

Sweetness!!!
I imagine you've played with it some more now. Is the UI still fast enough? There are two things i think i'll have to shop around for: I wonder if any NAV systems use google maps, cause I'd never have to pay for updates. And, how fast that software controls are. I get a little aggravated at my GPS now sometimes cause sometimes i gotta press with determination and hold. And it's not that old.

Love it. You know how picky I am with things like that. Remember Black and Decker meets BFH? It responds to inputs immediately. There is about a half second lag when switching sources. There are some nice shortcut features as well. There are multiple ways of controlling things without having to go through multiple screens which is nice.

I do have one gripe with it so far. It is laggy when connected via USB to my iPhone (3g with OS4.xx). When my 1st Gen Nano is connected it is fast, but my phone is laggy when browsing the library. But the UI on my iPhone is laggy as hell so I suspect a 3GS or iPhone 4 would be better though I am not 100%. I will certainly try one though and report back. But as of now, I am leaving the Nano plugged in all the time so I don't see myself using my phone for music playback.

These things are like little computers, if it's possible to load Google maps on one of these, you could probably find a way Johnny. lol
