There is no EGR pieces to take off an 06. The EGR is an in-cylinder solution that is achived with valve timing, injection timing, turbo, and injection event control. Major dollars to make a difference.
Better results can be achived by using a different cam, a programmer to adjust timing, and a different turbo.
Yep, no actual EGR... Like said a Cam makes the biggest difference, followed by a programmer to advance the timing (Smarty or Smarty Jr are the best).. .and from there he should be fine with the stock turbo.
It closes the exhaust valve prior to TDC to keep more exhaust gases in the cylinder.
