IF you are a TDR member, do a search on FASS, you'll see enough problem/failures among displayed threads to restore SOME relative faith in the Carters... There's even a poll of FASS failures over there - and last time I looked, a full THIRD of reporting users had problems/failures of one sort or another - and I seriously doubt even the scorned Carter's are anywhere NEAR that failure rate...

The key issue in failure tracking, is number of failures *per THOUSAND* - so if 3 guys in 10 users report FASS (or any similar aftermarket) issues, that SEEMS lots better than when 100 guys show up with Carter LP issues - UNTIL you stop to realize that's perhaps out of 10 THOUSAND Carter users...

really? Im not a member of the TDR...so thats news to me. I guess this just reinforces the NEED to have a fuel pressure guage on a 24V...no matter what pump you are running. As well, I think the Vulcan LP/pusher pump relocation kit is a really good idea...especially since its so affordable.

I was just over on TDR looking for the poll I mentioned, so I could provide a pointer, but I couldn't find it with the terms I used in the search - but I remember the thread - even made a couple of posts in it - I'll look some more later.

But yeah, ANY of the aftermarket setups would no doubt perform better down at a lower level, and back near the fuel tank.

No Problem Dazed...here it is:

http://www.vulcanperformance.com/ser...its/Categories

This kit reolcates your stock lift pump to the frame where is should have been put at the factory...instead of up on the hot vibrating engine. A very good idea with the mods you have planned. BTW, do you have an incab fuel pressure guage?

This looks nothing like the LP that came off my 04.

Replaced with FASS. And at least the FASS offers a 4 year warranty in comparison to the 10 day warranty the dealer was offering for their in-tank replacement.

Mechanical things can and will fail. Thus far neither my FASS or my 7.3 Ferd have failed me.

I have the vulcan kit , relocation and big line kits. I have great pressures even with a 88,000 mile pump. I run 16psi at idle and 14-15 psi at 70mph, she never pulls any lower than 12 psi. With the cummins 70.00 lift pump available i don't see a need for myself to do anything different, or atleast till they get wise and jack the prices up.

Steve, unfortunately not everyone can get their hands on that cheap LP...I know I tried three different locations and none would sell it to me for $65.

Dr. (or any of you),
If it would help you; I would be willing to get one here (provided I can get it here.....?) and send it along to you. 'Course, I don't know what would happen trying to run it through 'customs'..... Maybe you have had more experience with that

Anyway, just let me know if you want to try!

Dan

In fact, maybe I need to ask what this pumps number is. I want to do something to mine to replace the factory pump. Mine is a 3rd gen (But I read as much as I can; even if it's not about my truck!). I will be adding gauges as soon as I can; but, I don't think it gets enough fuel right now. We shall see.
I already have a great filtration system so I thought I would just add a pump back by the tank, quit using the factory one in the tank and save it as a roadside spare!

Hey Dan,

That would be cool if you could check...the p/n is a Cummins p/n and it is: 4090046. This pump is supposed to be for a recall on school busses. The price is around $65. My brother tried getting it at Cummins in Billings, MT. He called and they said - "no problem we have them in stock". Then when he drove down - they wanted the CPL number from the engine..and wouldnt sell it to him for $65...I think they wanted $200 or so....so thats the story on the cheap Cummins lift pump.

Im not real up on the third gens but Im sure your LP is in the tank...will likely take a little bit of research to figure out if this pump will work for you.
