Tip I found was to jack the truck up and support it on the frame to let the suspension hang down alil. Helps tremendously on 2WD trucks. Makes it alot easier to get in there.

I'm not sure - do the '02's have a crankshaft position sensor? I know some changes were made in the latest sensors in the 2nd generation trucks - including the camshaft sensor that I *think* replaced the crank sensor on earlier trucks. The camshaft position sensor is also a bear to change, and is located between the VP-44 and the engine block - VERY difficult to get to - anyone ever change one of those, and have details on how-to?

As Gary said, on '01 and '02 trucks, there is NO crank position sensor, there is a CAM position sensor, under the VP and above the power steering pump. I found this out the hard way, i took off the starter and nothing was there lol. So, check the year of the truck before you start takin parts off lol.

Yep. Good write up. I followed it the first time I had to change my CPS about three years ago. What ever happened to Cattle Hauler, he was a frequent poster on the other site. I think he bought a Ford if I remember right.
