6 speed manual

what year did they put the 6 speed manual in. I found a 99 dually 2wd with a 6 speed in it, shouldn't it be a 5 speed?I do not know could some one help me

They didn't start putting 6 speeds in them until 2000.

I certainly wouldn't worry about it though. Consider it a good free upgrade.

cept the 6 speeds are junk. IMO nv4500 is the way to go, 5th gear nut needs to be fixed, and i think some had a smaller input shaft.

I have a NV5600 transmission in my 2000, i think that is the first year they installed it. I have driven both the NV4500 and the NV5600 and even repaired a NV4500. I would say that while the extra gear is nice for towing in the NV5600 your living on borrowed time with one since they seem to be no longer in production and parts are getting scarce. I can't even find parts for mine since they changed them along the years. The NV4500 seems to be smoother and quicker shifting and cheaper to fix in the long run, and with the aftermarket support you could probably build one just as strong as the NV5600.

2000 Black Dodge Ram 3500 Dually 5.9l 24-Valve, NV5600 6-Speed, Edge Juice/Attitude, AirDog 150, Hydroboost to keep the front end lubricated ;-)
