cant blame you for that, edge makes a very dependable product, mine hasnt skipped a beat in five years. Also not interchangeable to my knowledge but I would call edge directly and see what they have to say. I believe they offer a deal for present owners if they want to upgrade to the new tuners so it may still be worth your while to get the deal from your buddy and then trade up.

If you can get the tuner really cheap you can talk to edge and send in that unit in on trade in for a new one, I did that and got my JWA CTS new for a little over $500, if you pay $300 or less you are saving a ton of money on a new module.
