My 99 5.9 block heater...wtf

Ok so i find my plug has never actually been plugged into the side of my block...i pushed...i shoved...i tried different angles...even used vasoline to try and lube its way in....now...i do some research online, none of the plugs look like mine that people offer....the ones online are all red with a 90 degree angle...mine is just black and straight...and it wont go in...so i thought about replacing the block heater port itself....none of those look like the one on my truck either!!!!! ok sooo....can someone with a 99 or 2000 or whatever is going to be the same as mine please post pics of your heater plug and plugin port on the engine....i guess im going to have to buy a new one of each to make this work...its effin cold outside

You don't have to buy one of each Just get a new replacement from Napa, CARQUEST or your favorite auto parts store. There no that hard to replace. How cold is effing cold? It was 8* here in western NE this morning at 6:30. Mine fired right up after the WTS light ended. Kicked my high idle on (ice scraper). Came out ten minutes later Andrew the temp gauge was reading 170*.

When dodge sells a new truck with a cummins they come installed with a block heater in the block but no cord. You have to buy the cord at the dealership. Maybe just go get a new cord maybe your heater is still good?

all I can say is if your going to get a new one DON'T GO CHEAP. Get the good one and enjoy years of service. get a cheap one and plan on replacing it one a year or more. Absolutely do not plug it in without any coolant in the block.

Do these heaters make a noise when plugged in? Mine makes no sound at all and I am pretty sure its broke because the truck had no heat four hours later.

My old neighbor in montana had a P.O.S 6.2 detroit diesel in a chevy. he was too cheap to buy a block heater so i would put a hair dryer under the hood and let it run all night. burnt the motor up in the hair dryer about every other week but hey, it worked
