I just bought my 01,6sd last week and it ran fine before the mods. Modifications included losing the muffler and straight piping it, a BHAF and removing the silencer ring but now it seems to hesitate right before the turbo kicks inike it wants go but something's holding it back. Once it hits the sweet spot it just starts hualing beepbeepbeep. Any idea what could have happened, need more fuel? If so how can I fix it? I don't want to start going crazy with mods just a really efficient running motor. Thanks

does it do this at low boost any RPM? or is there a certian RPM where the power is not there?
my first thought would be the MAP sensor, the other would be the CPS, if the 01's have one.

I'm not realy up on the inner workings and how the VP44 pump runs if it is a mechanical throttle, or like my 3rd gen electronic.
since it happens at a certian RPM range you might need to look at your TPS(throttle possition sensor) if it is electronic. but then at also any RPM you have hesitation that would lean more twards the MAP(Mass Air Pressure) sensor not being able to read low boost properly and I know the 2nd gen 24v's have them.

I did the APPS reset you recommended and the truck runs great now; really smooth with no hesitation. I test drove late morning when temps were about 60's I hope it doesn't act up when temps hit 90's later today. I'm:thumbsup in Los Angeles,Ca. Thanks for the great info. This website Rocks!!!:thumbsup

No sir, you have a mechanical truck which is controlled by a throttle cable instead of the "drive by wire" setup on a 24V.
Your hesitation could be caused by any number of things. Have you changed the fuel filter? Have you cleaed out the fuel filter prefilter?
Keep in mind 96's dont have a whole lot of get up and go in stock form.
