cummins grid heater problem

i have a 98.5 cummins 24 valve that the grid heater will only work when i unhook the battery cables and put them back on then it will work for about 20 starts then do it all over. I also notice the lift pump dosent run for 3 sec or 25 when you bump the key. Im leaning torwards a bad ground or bad ECU.

Any suggestions guys??

check for codes with the key trick and report back what they are if you have any.

Won't work... 98.5 and 99 will not report error codes with the key trick...

Get OBDII reader pull the codes and report back...

Quit unhooking the batteries all you doing is wiping out the APPS calibration...

Mine does something similar with the lift pump not running when you bump the key, but my grid heater only works sometimes. I got a P0606 code which is a bad ECM. So check codes

It might be good to check electical connections. The battery cables, The gray connectors near pass side negative cable, PCM ground strap, ground behind starter, grounds at both fenders, and make sure both batteries are good.

i pulled codes with the scan tool and i got p0382-glow plug circuit B i also pulled ABS codes not sure if there related but they were Code 43,45 Open ECU Output and Code 65 Open Power Relay Contacts. I cleared all codes and my grid heater and lift pump stopped running.
