98.5-02 PowertrainDiscussion of components that are directly involved in the power production and all that is needed to get and keep the truck moving . Engine , Transmission Ect..NO ADVERTISING .
Another good reason to drive a 12 valve where the lift pumps don't disintegrate.
Well, there ARE trade-offs - the 24 valvers are capable of on-the-fly timing and fueling changes, delivering both economy AND power on instant demand the earlier purely mechanical fuel systems can only DREAM of...
As to the above threat, THAT is easily cured by any of several replacement LP setups available that remove the drive motor from the fuel stream.
Is the use of the 24 valve style LP a significant reason to avoid that engine?
Not for me.
Would I STILL use that Frantz fuel filter even in a 12 valve fuel system as protection against all OTHER potential fuel contaminents and impurities?
YOU BETCHA!

"If heat is such a concern with the VP44 then why is the ECM on the motor with less concerns? Check the temp of the VP44 and the ECM after a hard long run. Can you slow it down from failing?"
WHY is my Cummins equipped 2500 more powerful in towing than a Hemi equipped one?
Apples/Oranges you will say - different units in different uses...
Same goes for the comparison between electronics inside a VP-44, and those in the ECM - they are made by different manufacturers to different tolerances, perform different functions, and mounted in different locations - even so, the ECMs DO fail!
The vast majority of discussions in forums like these are about "overkill" - how much power do you REALLY need? How big an exhaust - how much bigger injectors? How fast in the quarter mile, or how far in a sledpull do you really NEED to go?
Why is "overkill" in filtration to EXTEND the life of an engine and it's components any greater an evil or less desireable than POWER mods to SHORTEN it's lifespan?
Discussions in forums like these have the basic purpose and advantage of providing readers with OPTIONS - some options are based upon increased reliability - some for more power.
Who's to say THEIR mods or upgrades are more appropriate or important than someone elses?

SOMEHOW, I suspect ONE of us won't last long on this board without a substantial attitude adjustment...
now now fellas................YES some folks like to take things to extreams , some with HP/TRQ and some with preventative methods, Both you guys have valid points here but I just like to see all options out there so a feller can choose his options as they are available, we have a feller at work that is our lube oil specialist and this guy likes to change the oil on his truck every 2k miles..............is this an extream....YES, is it valid...........In his mind it is so in the end we just let him do what ever he wants.
