NEW or USED ECM ?

Does anybody know where the best place to get a new or used ECM is for a 2002, 3500, 6 speed, . the only one i can find around here is over $950.00. Do you have to have the ECM programmed by dodge?

thanks for any help Trent

I would only go through dodge on something like this. Do not buy one from a remanufacture company. My dad tried going through auto computer exchange they never could get one to work to this day. It may cost more from dodge but save yourself some headaches!

AFAIR that before 2003 Cummins ECM's and Dodge oens were the same, after 2003 only dodge ones work.

but i could be wrong on this.

Why do you say don't go with a reprogrammed one, they have a 12mo gauntness?
I am also looking for a ECM for my 2000, Ram 2500 5.9L. The mechanic wants me to pay $1,200 plus labor.
I have found one below for $590, and it doesn't seem that difficult of a install either? But I could be wrong?
