Bad Wastegate?

Okay coming back from a campin trip over memorial weekend was heading up a steep grade got to the summit upshifted and stared down the otherside. but when i let off the clutch the wastegate totally made a strange noise not like normal more drawn out and longer and higher pitched, so now i have been driving around for a week and the problem is intermitent does it sometimes and not others. I have checked the turbo shaft seems tight no play at all the hoses and gaskets appear fine. its not "barking" well atleast not like my friends '93 12v does. It sounds like the wastegate is muffed up havent really heard of that happening and it only happens when i clutch up to shift, boost pressure is normal 25-27 psi and egt's are normal also any help would be great
