Slow Start

I have a 2002 Dodge. The truck has 65k miles on it. I have had the truck for two months. The truck has been great except in the last few weeks when I start the truck up and take off there is no power shift to 2nd gear still no power. If I stop the truck turn it off and restart it everything is fine. I recently changed the fuel filter. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. My brother has 167K on his an has never had this problem. The air filter is clean no clogs. I keep at least 1/2 tank of diesel in it at all time and I also ad the dieel additive to it when filling up. It was suggested maybe that it has picked some trash up in the oil system and to change the oil and as lucal conditioner or possible the fuel filter has some trash. Any help would be great.

Thanks
Mike

I found a code and it states injection pump malfunction. I talked to the local dealer and they told me it is coverd for 5yr or 100,000 miles. My truck is
3 days over the 5 years. They told me I have 7yr 100,000 powertrain but the injection pump is not powertrain ? Does anyone know different he also told me the injection pump was $2900 to replace.

If you've got the Warranty booklet that came with your owner's manual (sure hope you do), it states clearly that the injection pump is part of the coverage in the powertrain/engine warranty. If you can produce that showing the pump is part of the warranted items, I'm sure they'll have to follow it to the letter. Also, if you're cool with them and tell them the problem occurred BEFORE you brought it in, not sure how long before you brought it in that you had problems, but i'd tell them that the problems with the pump started BEFORE the warranty expired, they will also have to honor it. DC has replaced an enormous number of these pumps under warranty, so yours shouldn't be any different. Hope this helps.
:thumbsup

Here's a link to the page in the Warranty Booklet that states the parts covered by the 5 year/100,000 mile or 7 year/100,000 mile warranties depending on year model. Your injection pump is covered.
Parts covered under 5 year/100,000 mile warranty

Hope this helps. Keep us posted.

Thanks fo rthe info. I got the books out last night found it in there stating what you said 1. It is a powertrain product covered under the 7yr 100,000 mile warranty with a $100 deductible. I am waiting on the dealer to open this morning and see what happens. I also went to Dodge website and printed the warranty and it clearly states its either 5yr 100,000 or 7yr 100,000 mile warranty covering the injection pump , cyliner block , turbo etc.. I will keep my fingers crossed and toes !!!

You also need to be aware of when the Cummins Diesel Engine Limited Warranty starts and applicable federal law.

A complete read of the first post in this thread, including links, may give you a bit more ammunition, if needed.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the info. It looks like the dealer has decided to take care of the injection pump for $100 they did state that the lift pump had low pressure and they would suggest replacing it. I deceide probably not a bad idea after talking to others. I will be out around $800.00 total not to be bad when it could have been $3600. Once again thanks for all the info.

I got the truck back and the lift was good carrying the right pressure.
I was out $300 had the fuel filter changed and a diesel injection service done.
The truck is running excellent like it did before.

Did the dealership do an actual "pressure" test or the famous "volume" test??
I believe mopar1973man has something on his website stating there to do "volume" tests on lift pumps? I'd ask if I were you!!
