Identify a transmission from pictures?

I've got an 01 that needs a trans (like 50% of the rest) the truck is rough and I don't want to put the cash out for a rebuild so it's parked!!
One o the local Facebook trading groups just popped up with a trans "they think is a diesel 94-03" I know there where several different variations so that statement is BS
is it possible to ID a trans from pictures?
How can I tell if it's a diesel trans?
What do I need to look at?
Thanks to anyone that can help, it's two hours away so I'm hoping to get as much info as possible before I go

so, by my observation, that's definetely a chrysler 4x4 re(i think, don't believe the rh has the plug pointing up for the gov pressure solenoid and transducer) trans

and it even has what looks like an aftermarket torque converter in it

but, i can't tell just from outside if it's a 47 or 48 re

though i'm sure someone here can

its definitely a 47re. If it out of a V10 or Diesel, we cant tell you. That would take a valve body inspection along with cutting the TC open to inspect the stator.

47RE up to 02(maybe 03) are pretty much the same mechanically. 98.5-2000 had one set of electronics and 01-02 had different ones. What is wrong with yours? Contrary to some, they are pretty tough if ran near stock HP, except for electronics and clutch wear. You can get old retired guy rebuild for under a $1000 inc parts. You can fix certain problems for a lot less, often yourself..

Moon, Did you ever replace governor pressure sensor an solenoid? Any metal in the pan? Some aftermarket bands are available that can be replaced without trani removal.

Well sounds like tear down time or at lease a slide in band. If you have the bucks at least consider a retired trani guy rebuild, about a $!000 most places. AAmco is about $3000 and aftermarket goes up from ther.
