Issue after auto to Manuel conversion

Hi guys. Check engine light is on after 2 weeks of the conversion. Tach will drop to 0 at times then work. I've noticed when it does this I do lose some power. Truck is stock except for 4" exhaust and isspro pyro gauge. I bought a 98 donar truck and had a local tranny shop do the conversion. The bad part was the donar truck is a 12 valve so no computer. Just wondering if there's a simple fix or if I have to do a ecm swap. The cruise also does not work. Thanks for any input.

That's what it sounds like to me.

As for your cruise...you need to run the wire for the NSS to the switch on the clutch pedal and ground it. Im sure they grounded it during the conversion and you can probably start the truck while its in gear.

You shouldn't need a ECM. As it has nothing to do with the transmission. My truck is going on 2 years after the conversion and no check engine lights or anything. Some trucks handle it well others do not. Your best answer is to rent or borrow a smarty and flash a manual tune to the truck. This will most likely solve your problem.

Do you run the vacuum assisted cruise or electronic cruise? ie what year is your truck.

What does the nss stand for? Do u need a special code reader for these or will a standerd one work. Would like to see what it reads. It would throw a code for the crank sensor correct? Not saying u guys are wrong. Also a couple times on a warm start it just cranked and cranked. Waited about five min then it fired. Forgot about telling u guys that. Thanks again for the input

NSS= Neutral safety switch (when grounded it tells the vehicle its not in gear and safe to start)
It needs to be ungrounded for cruise to work, otherwise it thinks its in neutral.

As for prolonged cranking sounds like there is to much fuel pressure during cranking.

As for a code reader as long as it reads and clears codes you will be fine.

Where would the nss switch be? So I need a wire from that to the clutch switch?

There is a 3 wired plug that went to your auto. The putter two are the reverse lights the middle one is the nss. Run a wire to the clutch safety switch and from there to ground.

Most always when the Tach does that it is the crank sensor on any 98.5 to 00. Not related to conversion.
