Wastgate Not Working Please (help)

I DONT THINK THE WASTGATE IS WORKING . I SHOULD BE ABLE TO MOVE IT BY HAND? THE VAC PART SEEMS TO BE WORKING FINE BUT THE GATE ITSELF WOULD NOT MOVE I HAD TO USE PLYERS TO MOVE IT. IT IS STILL HARD TO MOVE BUT IT MOVES NOW I SPRAYED PENATRATING OIL ON IT AND KEPT WORKING IT. IS THIS SOMETHING I NEED TO REPLACE? WHAT SHOULD I DO??

THANKS

The spring in the wg head is a tight mofo... Use air PRESSURE to activate and move the WG head. What makes you think its not working?

I Could Move The Head That You Are Saying To Add Air To. But The Gate Lever On The Exhaust Pipe Would Not Move At All I Had To Take Plyers To It To Make It Move, Then I Had To Move It Slow And A Small Amout At A Time.working It To Larger Movements.it Also Seemed To Hang Up Or Stick As It Moved.
I Am Getting Codes P1693 ,po216, Po234.
I Know What P1693 Is And Po216, And I Was Told Po234 Was The Wastgate. So I Was Checking It Out And This Is What I Found.you Can Tell Me I Am Wrong

I Have A Rebuilt Vp44 On The Way.
I Need To Make It Run As Good As Possible, I Will Be Towing A 40' Fifthwheel In 4 Weeks And Dont Need Troble On The Road. I Have Onle Had The Truck A Short Time. I Know It Has Had A New Lift Pump In Stalled.i Belive It Is Factery, But It Will Have To Do Untell A Latter Time I Have Had The Tranny Checked Out And It Is In Good Condition.for The Most Part The Truck Runs Strong And For The Time I Have Hade It It Been Mostly Hy Miles.the Trubo Has Never Got So Hot It Turn Red.that Is About All I Can Tell You About The Truck
Thanks

Hey,

Here are the codes:

http://mopar.mopar1973man.com/pdf/error-codes.pdf

Yes the P0234 is the "boost too high" code and leads to the waste-gate possibly being a problem.

It could be related to the VP going out, but not sure... I don't know why the turbo would put out more boost...

More than likely the wastegate it bad.

Do you have any gauges?

You really need gauges if you plan to tow with it and fuel pressure no matter what. Also you better plan on upgrading the lift pump!!

Later,
Winslow

Hey,

That's what I would do! It could say you some green!!!

What he's saying is "caping" every first letter, Like This, instead of, like this. See the difference? Not a big deal, just saying!!

and since you mentioned factory lift pump, get a raptor, airdog, or fass. that stock LP is a pure gamble.

Yeap you got a wastegate that is sticking closed. I would look into pulling the turbo off and cleaning and freeing up that wastegate so its smooth.

As for the P0216 code you VP44 is heading for a dirt nap and the lift pump is the cause so replace both!

While your at it install some gauges at least... (Fuel pressure, boost, and pyro)

As a bare min you need to monitor the fuel pressure. if you just put a stock LP back in the truck, it might last a week or a yr, they are so hit and miss. but if you invest in a mechanical gauge and some hose, you should spend under 100$ to plumb it in. if thats too much get a warning light, Cummins has a kit (50-60$ I think) or just buy the sender (25$) and get a LED from radio shack.
This is not the best way of watching your fuel pressure but at least its better than nothing!
