auto tranny problems...

my transmission is acting funny, at low speeds it lurches and wont upshift, the engine will rev up and then drop and keep repeating itself....while cruising when i need to slow down the tranny wont down shift and i will have to put the truck in neutral

A friend of mine had some issues like that and said it was a speed sensor on the trans. I'm not sure how you would test it though. Did it throw any codes? I think the speed sensor is a common issue, and a cheap easy fix, so hopefully thats it. Good luck.

same issue

I am actually having the same issue. How exactly do you go about finding out if it is the speed sensor. How much does having this replaced or fixed usually run? Thanks for your help.

I think the part is only like 20 some dollars, and it is an easy thing to do yourself, if that is the problem. I'm not sure if the truck will throw a code for that or not. Hopefully someone on here can help you better. If you cycle your key switch to on 3 times without starting your engine, then leave it on the third time it will give you the codes, if you have any, where your digital odometer is.

I bought my truck from a guy who said the tranny was out of it. It was acting very similar to yours. I put a scan tool on it and the governer pressure sensor was reading 33psi all the time, even with the engine off. The temp thermister was reading -12* even though I just drove it 15 miles to town. The temp thermister is built into the governer press sensor. I replaced both the sensor and governer press solenoid at the same time. Parts were about $150.

Oops, some how I ended up in the wrong forum. Mine is an 3rd gen. Not sure if your would be the same

none of those codes are related to the speed sensor, they all have to do with the torque converter lockup switch i had installed about 4 months ago and used twice and took out of the truck...
