Cost to rebuild a VP44

What does everyone think? Seems that the rebuild kits (seals at least) are around $50. The chip set and steel insert? How much could this be? And then, the technician's time and cost of the calibration stand use.

What does everyone think it truly costs to rebuild a VP44 to Bosch standards with a 1-year warranty?

Where are you going to find someone with the calibration bench that would only piecemeal a VP44 back together?

technically people like you and i cant pull them apart and rebuilt them because when you pull it apart it has to be recalibrated, and if you happen to have a $200K calibration bench in your garage please fill me in

otherwise the solution is to buy a new one, there $1200 +/-, avoid the black colored ones, there cheaply made, and make sure you get an aftermarket lift pump too (FASS, raptor, Air Dog, Etc) they usually run $4-600 or so, as for the warranty most places the pump comes with a 1 year, theres a place here in fresno that is a certified Bosch facility that gives a 3 year warrany with the purchase of the pump

4 out of 5 times the VP44 failure is electronic. the dealer cost on the electronics box is about $350, + you have to calibrate it on a $100,000 test bench (add another $200) + install and seals and its only part rebuilt and you are at about $700 + your labor.

Better to just get a new remanufacured pump. Check out my signature.

It wouldn't be so bad if they did have the stupid calibration test bench thats 120k. I know people that could get the parts... cheap. But the problem is that you have to get it calibrated.

i have a ton of research on rebuilding and you either come out the same as a reman or a little higher but then you also have the down time of pulling rebuilding and then shipping back. so why wouldnt you just purchase a reman and then you down time is cut in half and at the same price.

The problem in part is diesel Injection pumps are to Bosch as diamonds are to DeBeers.
They have the parts captive and no one has ability to secure all components, and bench tools and knowledge. Bosh has very strenous requirment to be approved rebuilders. As others say, just buy what you need with a warranty and be happy.
