I need HELP ASAP!!!!!!

I was towing our excavator, around 12k, and all of a sudden the truck started to surge under load. As long as I kept it under 1600 rpm it ran fine, as soon as I went over 1600 rpm it would start surging. After I got it home I noticed that the lift pump was not running. So I ordered an AirDog hoping that that will fix the surging. Am I on the right track? Also, their were no codes. Any other ideas?

It is very possible the VP was running empty on fuel. Its hard to say if it will live or die, but the aftermarket lift pump is needed anyways. All you can do is put the pump in and hope for the best.

I have a fuel pressure gauge, but it as one of the cheap a$$ glowshift ones and it bounces all over creation. I'm just hoping the VP was running out of fuel, I run 2 stroke in it so I hope that saved it.

You may need a needle valve or snubber (if the gauge is electric) to make it read steady. the fluctuation is most likely caused by the water hammer effect from the VP44.

Put the Airdog 150 on and the truck still surges, but not as bad. Any other tips?

i think you know the dreaded answer were going to give you.

FP is steady at 15psi. And no death codes yet. I did have a weird one, P1698 - Which is only for autos, mine is a 5-speed. I just can't bring myself to the realization of dumping another $1000 into her.

Ya...the 1698 makes no sense. A 1689 would make perfect sense.

isnt 1698 the companion code? Can't remember off the top of my head, but if you do a search, you should find one. try the APPS, or the MAP sensor...dunno, but maybe that'll help.
