I didn't notice the second definition. It also means "Bus communication failure to PCM. A companion DTC was set in both the ECM and PCM.'

Ok...

P1698 No CCD Messages received from PCM Bus communication failure to PCM. A Companion DTC
was set in both the ECM and PCM.
(PCM is no longer talking on the CCD network for some reason)

P1689 No Communication Between ECM and Injection Pump Module Data link circuit failure between ECM and fuel injection pump. Low power, engine derated, or engine stops.
(VP44 and ECM are no llonger talking)

P1693 DTC Detected in PCM/ECM or DTC Detected in ECM
A Companion DTC was set in both the ECM and PCM.
(A problem exist in one or both modules - Companion code)
