P1698 code

I know what the code means:

Fault: No CCD message from TCM
Explanation: Failed ECM
Probable cause: 1. Open bus line 2. Failed TCM

What I am experiencing:
I have an 2001 2500 4x4, everything stock, with an automatic transmission. The RPM gauge reads sometimes and others it does not read. This started May 4, last Monday. On a couple of occasions, in 3rd and 4th gear, the tranny would downshift quickly when it shouldn't and then shift back quickly mainly on any slight incline. I did change the main battery the a few days before and did not change the auxilery battery (which is still original). I am going to go purchase a new auxilery battery soon. Any takers on what the issue is if it is not the battery??

There are two computers at work here. One is at the passenger side firewall and is called the PCU or Powertrain Control Unit, the other is located on the drivers side of the engine and is called the Engine Control Unit. I would start by pulling the connectors on these units and checking for signs of corrosion and or moisture. If there is any clean it well and pack it with dielectric grease.

Also reset the APPS sensor while your at it, some people have reported that this has helped on DTR but I am not so sure its even related.

We had a truck the RPM gauage failed on, and we ended up haveing to change the computer out... it started doing all kinds of strange things as the motherboard began to break down, strange gauge movements, shifting, idle, etc.

Oh, and might I add that at times I have noticed that the overhead console will sometimes say "No Ccd" and then cut back on to have the temperature, avg mpg, etc.

Sound like your computer is going crazy... No signals, etc is that, or a bad ground, which could be (I was thinking about it later, and IS a possibility) but I'd guess a computer prob.
You have to take the truck to a dealer for that, the only reason you HAVE too is because the vins won't match in the computers when they are reconnected, and thus have to be reprogrammed, ie: a dealer. I believe it was the black box, located directly behind the fold down tray(ash tray), under the dash. Not sure, as the dealer is the one who had to do ours. Cost somewhere around $800 dollars, and was down for a week.....
Just an idea though, hopefully someone else may have an idea as to what else (cheaper/easier) could be causing it.

When I change the relay should I also change the lift pump? I am also receiving the P1689 code and have a thread posted for that as well.

Would an auto parts store have the relays in stock?

No I don't. I was asking in another thread about getting a pressure gauge to test the lift pump and I don't know if an auto parts store would carry the exact size fitting I would need to hook it up. Where can I get one?

p1698 code, erratic shifting

i have a 01' cummins, everything stock, only 66,000 miles, southern truck. its shifting erratically, more of a nuisance than anything. once in a while the engine light comes on and then goes off. last time it was on i got a computer on it and came back with "turbo charger low output", and a p1698 no definition code. when starting it in the morning, you can constantly hear something clicking on and off under the hood. as it clicks on and off the interior lights dim and rebrighten with the clicking. this is so irritating. any one have any ideas? i love my truck dearly, and the dealership just tells me to trade it in, the diesel tech doesn't even want to get involved with it. i'm determined to fix this.
