Turbo Advice?

Well I have come to the conclusion that the HX40 that is on my truck is completely wrong for this truck. So I am going to start to look at some different turbos and I was wondering what you guys thought would be best for my set up in my sig. I was looking at a s300 or maybe the HTBG that New Era has. I am trying to stay around $1000. What is the difference b/t these and the HTB2 that I see for sale in the classified on TDR that the guys are saying are from their TWIN setups?

Thanks for any input,
Rick

S300 is what the HTB series and the II phat shaft and super phat shafts are based off of. The HTBG has updated bearings over the s300. HTBG is a very robust charger, but won't cool the truck in your sig. I am going to say that a 64 would have a problem if you have the box turned up. I ran an HTB2 62/12 on my 01 HO with 130HP injectors, with the comp box on lower levels it would keep it cool, but 3 and above it started to heat up, but you could only be hard on the gas for 10-15 seconds and you would be 100+ MPH. I towed 12K-13K with it and just turned the box off. Only issue was 6th gear below 2000rpm I could hit about 1300 on the EGT. It was a good set up for the truck, good power and good spool. I would look at a 64/14 or a superstock 62 or quick diesel 64. The superstock 62 is a great towing turbo. Hope that helps.

Ya that helps, but right now I am not having any trouble keeping it cool and I have a HX40 that isn't wastegating, and won't boost above 23 psi., So from that anything would be an improvement.

I know I am not the smartest person in the world(my g/f would completely agree with that), but I thought that if the Wastegate was stuck open it would not be able to build any boost? Am I incorrect?

if you have enough fuel, it will boost whether the wastegate is open or not.

I'm thinking that the 40 has a 16 exhaust housing and it'll take some fuel to get that thing to really make some boost. The S300 is ok but a HTB2 would be much much better - better design and more air!!

Put an adjustable boost elbow on it ....you will see the boost come up!

$25.00 will get you the boost you want
