Talking It's time for some big boy mods... would like input!!

I found a head.... stock, remanufactured by cummins with warranty for 1k looks like I'm going that route. Pick it up Wendsday.

In the meantime I've ordered some custom cut 150' injectors from coaltrain.
and am looking into some other mods.

I'm definantly getting an airdog 150.

getting a new oil pressure sending unit.

I want an oil bypass system but don't know which to go with? any input is greatly appreciated.
I'm sick of all this money I've dumped into my truck just to keep it running with the transmission and head now I want a million mile truck!!!!!!

It looks like I'm also doing a flame thrower kit on the stacks which is better than my bad head that caused fireballs from the stacks but it looked cool and ispired me

I'm wondering if I need a bigger turbo now to handle the egts....

anybody have any ideas for mods while I'm going through all this? for longevity and performance? thumbsup I'm getting my rig back on the road YAY!!!!

btw a cheep steering pump would be good too, do they all leak like mine?

check with some of the local cummins shops and get a price for a new cr head they're a lot cheaper than a vp head. i recently found one here in wisconsin for like $1200-$1300. i don't know how much the new crossover tubes are but for a new and better flowing head I think it's worth the few extra bucks. as far as bypass i'd go with a frantz. cheap to replace the filters and easy to change. don't believe all the messy hype about it i haven't spilled a drop of oil when changing mine. the hard part is welding the return line in the pan. check the sps 62/14 or something similar. lots of reading on the posts for turbos.

Yeah it looks like I'll go with a Frantz, the CR crossover tubes are around 300 bucks, I've debated on the CR head... and the hassle and cost outweighs the benefits. I'm doing this all myself after work in the garage (40x30 yard building) LOL it's time to get the tractors and hot rods in oughtta the weather.
The head I found cost 1,052 dollars.... it's 25 minutes away.
twin turbos would cost me about 2,500 just can't swing that right away.....

How much hassle could it be? what all is involved? i've read up on it but not that much. all you need is the tubes and porting some water jackets right? i would think it wouldn't be that bad plus the supply for the vp heads are getting low. i'm assuming that's why cummins can only get remans and they cost twice as much. not sure but that's the route i'm gonna go when i decide to rebuild.

I've allready got my headgasket.... those things aren't cheap and aren't interchangeable.
It's possible to do it, some new wiring and fuel lines.... but all in all it'd be another 6-800 on top of what the head would cost. I'm pretty well set on the head I found and am picking it up wed.

PS: I am so burnt out on spending money on this truck... the only reason I'm doing these last few big mods is for longevity. It looks like I've past that point of no return, I will never get what I've got into my truck so it's mine for life...... just doing it right (as right as I can possibly afford at the moment).
how much are injectors for CR..... yeah exactly!!!

i'm in the same boat as you are. I've spent so much money on the truck that I have to keep it for a few more years. Do you have to replace the injectors on a cr head swap? When and if I rebuild will be for longevity as well. RV pistons, cam, balanced, cr head. Should be a 500k setup.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out. :thumbsup

you will use your same injectors with a CR head swap.
