But Due to Vp44 ,ECM and a number of other issues , My Truck had me Un Easy to drive
9/10th of enjoying things is mental , as I was hearing every creak , Crummble and chirp I decided to detune for my own sanity
Sold the comp , Sold the Haisley Injectors , Took off the Hx35 and put the stock Hy back on ......
With these changes and the Pro Loc VB and Triple Disk truck was slower than stock ...LOL
Went with a Smarty and got it back to Super Driveable with Get Up And Go , It scans also so Im selling my scanner too
Also I have 23 PSI Fuel Pressure and Tomarrow Im removing the Pusher Pump and Mounting the LP in the pushers place ..till I get a better fuel system , In Process of getting the Bilstine 5100 Series Shocks for the rear to match the KORE front I have .
Truck is about 1/2 the truck it was and is not as Fun to drive ON SATURDAY NIGHTS but its much better for cummuting and hauling the family around.
If I ever Go up the Performance slope again I will buy a 1998 12V Manual Tranny , Till then My trucks going to be put in a tune that I personally feal the safest with and I will devote my time to keeping care of it Not saying BOMBED CTDs are UNSAFE just that Ive had my Fair Share of CEL's and Tows ....
DM
Let me qoute a Post I made a long time ago it may shine some light to Bombers
Quote:
Please allow me to enlighten my self with a SEMI-Rant life lesson.
Im in the BOMBING BLEW'S
And While stareing @ my broke down 35,000 + $$ truck Im wondering
Did I Do That
I do know I voided my warentee @ 20,000 and now with 42,000 its going to set me back about $850 before it will even run ...and it could of been $0 Im not complaining I knew what I was doing when I did it.
With my upgrades have I decreased the Longevity of my truck?
That is the reason I bought a CTD so it would last.
I know my TC would be the next week link so I droped $2000 on it and its in the garage ....too bad my ECM died .
I figger
$850 for the ECm
$2000 for the TC/Vb
$400 to have the TC/Vb put in ,,, including filter and fluid
Now lets say all that goes good
How long before my Input shaft breaks or something else ???
Why do I even have to worry about it ...I could be stock and know its going to last ,,,but NOOOOOO I have to have MORE,,MORE,,MORE to the sacrifice of what ......... EASE OF MIND........truck longevity....... Wallet.....????
There is no end to this bombing Nightmare/Dream for with every Bomb has its days and will it grow old to its owner over time.
So whats YOUR GOAL ???
My Personal goal is to bomb to the Plateau then Stop then to become one of these Ol' timers who always seem to be leaving because of us newer generation of CTD owners .. its sad that you guys leave we need you to help us along the path to the Plateau and to keep us from falling over the edge.
What is this Plateau ??
IMO 450 HP
Im sure everyone has there own opinion thats Cool but I personally think that 450 HP is the point between Longevity and Destruction
I have a 2002 CTD
I Tow hardly anything at all
Sometimes I haul a water tank
I drive 25 miles to work and 25 miles home thats my trucks job..
In all reallity If I could turn off 3 clynders and run on it for 300,000 miles than swich to the other 3 I would be cool... I dont need 450 Hp its just .............Fun .... I guess that sums it up.
My path so far on the limited bombing I have done has been very bumby
Forum Members have helped a bunch ........ Just resently ....
Graphic Man gave me a $90 SK for free and mailed it from canada .... I chose to go with a preformance VB so my friend HOLYSMOKES came and picked it up at my house with the quickness Smokes also was my relay between WORK and TDR when I was in CTD Trouble. Bob Wagner is sending me a loaner ECM ...thank GOD for Bob. Rock-N-Rammer (R-N-R)has been my Guide sience I have joined I have contacted him on just about everything I have done to my truck and he is one heck of a guy ....lucky for me ...not for him...but his ECm died at the same time mine did so we call and cry into each others ear J Rose towed me with a chain for about 5 miles to the CTD shop , Timbeaux38 gave me tons of valuable info about my trany and some other things ,, LightmanE300 has been schooling me about Fuel Additives ever sence my DTR days ... and tons of help from alot of members
THANKS
As mentioned 450 Hp is about the Safe/Danger Goal
Now you have to decide how to get there .........Out of all the possible ways (TONS) you can bet a member Here will help you along your way and be there to bail you out when things get ugly.
I know I will read this thread next year and it will bring back memories of this tragic event and I will take many lessons from the Path I have Strolled down and just maybe I can lend a hand to you one Day.
When the Rubber meets the road just about any bombing you do up to 450 HP when something Breaks chances are it was going to break someday anyway IMO. No matter how you got to 450Hp .....well ... with in reason .
Now cross the Plateau and its down hill WONDERFUL if its not your daily driver not so good if it is .... take this note if its your only means for transportation dont get caught up in bombing to the point where Longevity has went out the window and has joined your path of smoke .
Truth be known for a 24V to smoke like a 12V you will have to be Pushing a BOO-KUU of HP ...
As I was watching my boy play in the dirt the other day he was throwing up bits of dust and watching the wind take it away... the quest for SMOKE starts young I guess @ about 2 yrs old..... the path for smoke can be very twisted and cannot be as simple as just throwing dust into the wind.
You need to make a choice
What do you BOMB FOR ???
A lot of 24Vers want 12V Smoke ... DONT DO IT
For the money you would have in your 24V to make it smoke like that you can buy a 12V and just tare the hell out of it.
DONT BOMB FOR SMOKE
BOMB in reason to keep your truck for the purpose you bought it.
I am somewhere between Longevity and Destruction... I just dont know where for sure. As I see many members with 3 times the bombs I wonder is it reliable ??
Sadly, I face the same decisions. If this were just my play truck I would bomb the heck out of it but its my everyday truck so I have to take it easy on what I do with it.
A older gentleman at work asked me what I do with all the extra power and I told him for our camper and other needs we have around the field. He said didn't it do the job in stock form. I said yes but you never know when you need more and he said like what "pull a semi out of a ditch." We laughed but he had a valid point.
Like DM, I get paranoid every now and then when I hear something. Like now I know my clutch will slip at higher revs and I hear a little rattle that I can not figure out for the life of me where its coming from.
My truck is only slightly modified and I have seen some of your guys rigs and they are blowing huge amounts of power. I guess it all comes down to what your needs for the truck is and if you have the resources to fix it if something happens.
My plan is to eventually sell my current truck and purchase a newer model. I plan to only stick to the basics with the new one. I like a throaty exhaust, I like to hear the turbo so a aftermarket air box will have to be added, I enjoy seeing some black smoke when I press on the pedal so a box will.......oh wait see when does it stop? I'll just have my wife cut my allowance and I'll learn to live with what I have.

Yeah but thats the fun part about it, fixing it when it breaks. Although i'm also young and do not have anyone depending on me to feed and take care of them.
I have many plans for my truck and have no intentions on getting rid of it. At least thats what I say for now. Being a diesel tech at CAT and seeing all the new engines coming out I would NEVER dream on owning one of them. It's a very promising job security for me but alot of money and headaches for others. I like my simple 24V.
But I can definatley understand where you guys are coming from.
DM: Can't wait to see how your HX responds on my truck compared to my HY.

I'm in the same boat as you... I'm going the safe route for BOMBing... I've been coving all the lil' problems that factory has made... I think I've got them all covered now. But now I'm looking down the road of finding a fuel/timing box to add... Something mild... I just want a few extra horse from pulling logs out and hauling firewood.
As for racing or pulling... I'll never go there... My truck is going to be a go ol' work horse and try to keep it like that...:thumbsup

Chad sorry to hear that you are having jitters about BOMB'n. Here is a little info for ya that I trust my truck with what I have done.
I have 160000 rounds on mine........been BOMB'ed since 60,000. Every year I drive it out to Idaho for a week worth of sledding, 2400 miles round trip. Back and forth to work everyday, 84 miles round trip everyday, weekends I am traveling around to work on trucks, usally 300 to 400 miles on a weekend. Truck history of related problems............well lift pump went out at 90,000, replaced under warrenty, then went to a FASS, sold the new L/P. Changed out the original VP for a HRVP, nothing wrong with original VP, just wanted more. Changed out stock injectors at 60,000 and went to DD2's then 8x10's then 8x12's and now 8x14's.........tried almost everybox out there except the red line box. Stretched the head bolts and then fire ringed and studded the head, had a leaking vac pump, fixed that myself, I have a Lukes link on my track bar it has to be adjusted once a year, and had to replace the hanger bearing once. Besides a few brake jobs that has been it. I am sorry that you don't feel as confident about adding things, but I can tell you that mine is very drivable...I will give you a ride at IRP, and you make the call.........really that is all I have done to my truck since BOMB'n........other than putting the aftermarket goodies on............later Jim.
