somebody else already said it best... if you like that chevy/ford so much buy one, and then get off the CUMMINS forum!!!

it sounds like everybody that has a problem with their dodge doesnt fix things right, and wont spend a dime upgrading anything that doesnt add HP!!! when your brakes go bad replace them with slotted rotors and good pads, or do a 3rd gen swap. dont just put the same cheap autozone s%#t back on and then complain about how they dont work good.

If you cant handle the sound of a real truck resonating in the cab, put your muffler back onand maybe a resonator too. and while your at it dynomat works wonders.

if your fenders are rusting out, thats your fault, not the truck. metal is metal is metal!! dodge doesnt just have worse metal, its because after they salt the roads on an icy day you just let it sit there and do its work, try rinsing it off

Dash cracked???? Ever heard of armoral???? its called preventitive maintenance

oh and the front end.... instead of buying that intake manifold, why not get an aftermarket track bar and steering stabelizer? and when the ball joints and U joints go bad, spend a little extra and some high quality greasable units, and keep up the maintenace!!!!

things do wear out, that is life, but you cant beat the piss out of your dodge, and not maintain it, lift it, crank up the power, and then blame dodge for u-joints and trannys... come on guys. If the Cummins came in a Ford, everybody would b@#ch because the ford would wear out before the cummins too!!!

95% of everything i hear people complain about with these trucks is preventable. Or a common and widely know issue that there are cures for, but people are too cheap to fix 'em right.

here is my advice - clean and maintain your truck like it is for sale, and you will never want to sell it!!!!

I actually like the cracked dash in mine. It has more crack than dash in it now but it gives it some character

if you want to buy a truck to make power and last, get a cummins. if you want one that will just flat out last....flip a coin. i have a cummins due to the low end torque, and simplicity the engine and the ease of work on it... if i ever have to. thats my opinion. i cant bash the 7.3l at all. they last but when you start to make extra power they start to get tired fast

I cant agree more with MrNiceGuy. All vehicles have small stupid stuff that breaks on them over time. All of them have some advantages and disadvantages, and you as the purchaser has to way the pros and cons of what you want.

To caveat of MrNiceGuy, in the Army (say what you want about Army maintenance) we have something called PMCS (Preventive Maintenances Checks and Services). Currently I am deployed to Iraq; I am using Freightliners (M915) to haul cargo all over theater. These trucks every mission are flogged, beat, and pummeled. Take a truck throw 3 plus tons of armor around the cab, hauling two 10ton Up-Armored Humves and hit an IED crater at 60mph. Just driving on Iraqi Roads is awful, think of a pot holed road and then pave it without filling in the holes

Every time before my Soldiers turn the trucks on for the day, every time they shut them down at the end of a day they go over them quickly looking for issues. Most importantly at the end of every mission they go through them with our maintenance guys and fix any problems and service them, mainly greasing all the points. These trucks are on their 5 rotation which means they have had four other units beating on them for close to a year a piece.

Now what was my point….Ah yes PMCS. By spending the time to service them regularly and fixing stuff as it breaks my M915 have lasted a long time doing a job they were never intended for. How does this relate to a Dodge…well most of us are doing things to these trucks weren’t intended to do. I was a rancher before becoming a Soldier; I have beat on plenty a truck, including my current Dodge. However by spending the time to service my rigs and spending a little money on the fixes for problems. By doing the PREVENTIVE MAINTENACE, I do not experience as many of the problems that I hear about on here.

Lastly, think about the age of these trucks in this section the last of them was made in 02 it 09 now so these trucks have been in service for at least 7 years, with what done to them…..

Well sorry about the little bit of the rant and lecture…I try not to.

Have a Good Day All
Rob

for real everytruck isnt made to last for ever. nothing does. their is a market that also thrives off of vechiles breaking down. duramaxs sucked until the 6.6....wanna know why? they fixed the problems with the 6.2 and 6.5... cummins slowly got better....its a 10 year old truck... if u dont want something u dont mind working on... by a new truck and follow the warrenty on it. they make new generation trucks TO FIX the problems with the old ones....for instance. the vp44 has a flaw. so the 3rd gen swapped t the cp3. no truck is perfect. but if i was going to choose a diesel i would want the one that is in the majority of semis and construction equipment. cummins has been around longer then the others.. theirs prolly a reason. if u hate the dodge part. buy a ford and do destroking kit. OR BETTER yet... UPGRADE the parts that fail instead of just saying dodge made it crappy. honestly the vp44 works fine in stock form. but what do u expect from anything when u run the piss out of it with a chip or bigger injectors. something will fail. no company designs the truck around aftermarket parts. they design it for the stock use. people need to realize this.
