My uncle has a 01 stroker with a mild chip in it and nothing else done. It is one heck of a runner. My 98.5 dually has no chip but has K&N and banks high ram and it feels doggy compared to the Ford. Im a Chevy man all the way. Ive had a 6.5 diesel. Had bad luck on one motor, but I still think they are good engines. The truck was nothing less than a gem and it was a great truck and in my opinion. My dodge is nice but its just not like my Chevy was. Seems like all I have done is replace bushings and do front end work on it since I bought it. Ford interior feels cheap. If you want a fast truck , get a 7.3. If you want a dependable engine, get a Cummins. 206,xxx on mine and still tickin.

9 transmissions and its not a problem with the truck, its a problem with who is rebuilding it. Not saying its a good transmission cause most autos suck regardless of brand.

Just my opinion, putting an auto behind a diesel built for a gasser is retarded. I don't think Chev even offers a manual tranny anymore.

Chevy uses the Allison though. Which is a much better automatic than the 47re IMO. That would probably be the only change i would make in my dodge.

I love my dodge/cummins, i've had it for 3 yrs now and its been a great truck to me. Before I bought it i did research how much it would cost to bomb a dodge or a 7.3 ford, at the time I was on the fence and chevy just wasn't an option. I owned a dodge truck before this one and after researching the costs and relibility I went with the Dodge CTD over the Ford PSD. Mine isn't turned up now but I will be bombing it soon enough.

A trans tech at the dealer I bought my 06 from said I would be better off to upgrade mine than to do a swap because he sees just as many allison transmissions in the shop as he does any other. This was a shop that deals with a Chevy Ford and Dodge dealer too.

Ford = best truck
Cummins = best motor
4r100/47re = best BUILT transmission

Ford and Dodge both use good axles... Dana 50's, 60's, 80's and Sterling 10.25"/10.5".

I'm driving a 99 dodge 1500 318 right now since my friend took my 7.3 F250 to Texas to tow his girlfriend's car home. This thing has about the cheapest feeling and looking interior of any fullsize pickup I've ever been in. It's surprisingly loud inside, and the A/pillars/mirrors leave much to be desired. The dash is cracked all to he11 and it's rusting bad on the doors and tailgate. It's only got 83,000 miles on it too and was driven by a grand pop and garage kept for the first 70 some thousand miles...

My biggest problem with my 7.3 is the PMR rods... I'm limited to 400 rwhp which I'm only injectors away from at this point.

Real engines are 6 in a row, look at the big rigs, V8 has more friction to over come not to mention more resiprocating weight. Physics always has a way of showing what works best, ps when Dodge was developing the diesel pick up for the third time tested the Allison and the allison couldnot handle the cummins broad torque curve. I know this is a late post so ignore it if you like but let me know if you like.
