I would presume that because the S&B is encased in a box with the opening pointing towards the fender hole, it should be considerably quieter than a BHAF, even with the silencer ring removed. That said, I prefer the silencer ring out since I've had the habit of driving by sound ever since I raced motorcycles. I do better listening to the engine and the turbo in understanding whats going on under the hood more than watching gauges. Although I do agree that an obnoxious turbo can be terrible. I've heard some of those Powerstrokes that scream just cruising down the city street, strangely seemingly irrelevant to the engine RPM's too. That would be worth quieting up.....
