Injector Myth!

well there has been a lot of questions involving injectors lately. i personally have a set of 150's with a stock turbo and egt's are very manageable  so i'm going to list a run down of my rig and a video. oh and thanks John for the video help!

This was a floored run from 40mph to 100mph

2000 extended cab 4x4, automatic trans built (no billet), ats valve body, ats 5 star converter, BHAF, straight pipe, no silencer ring, 3.55 gears, Coaltrain 150 injectors with some lift...some, Edge EZ, 265/70/17 tires. PYRO IS PRE TURBO! Isspro gauge EV1 is what it is

the truck has a tool box in the back that is loaded (350lbs). goose neck plate is in. there is a load of fire wood in the back (not much.....175lbs). also about another 100lbs of scrap metal in the back. this is not much at all but it's just a list for people that beat dead horses.

same set up but with a tractor behind me (50hp Kubota 4x4 with a front loader). this time i was sitting still at a red light and gave it heavy acceleration (3/4 throttle maybe a tad more). egt's settle around 900* under normal conditions with the converter in lock up (no lock up switch). driving conditions 55-65 mph.

this is the same weight (tractor) but going up a pretty steep grade. video is kinda dark but you can see the end result. same throttle from a dead stop.

150's, with no wire tap fueling box, should be fine with a TIMING BOX!

UPDATE! 2-16-2010
i have now added a TST PM2 with no remote to my truck. i have been running it with the EZ and injectors (150's) hitting 1400* on my egt's (both boxes set to wide open). i'm still playing with some ideas and will post a video soon. i have also added a tunnel ram intake plate and a 3" intake horn that i fabbed up. it offers a faster spool up and slower egt climb. i'll keep everyone posted.

thats pretty much the results I see with the fueling box turned off, just running a timing box. Runs up to 1250-1300 ish and just sits there. Hits a wall so to speak. By the time I "hit the wall" towing, I'm already going way too fast to be towing.:thumbsup:
Very good point.

I had the same setup in my other truck. Coaltrain 150s, juice, built tranny and stock hx35. With the juice on 1 i got ~ the same results as you Duke, but on a couple 1/4 runs with the juice on 5 or 6 it would get pretty hot(~1750* when the convertor locked in OD). I drove it on 5x5 all the time and as long as you didnt stay in it for 15 seconds + it wouldnt get hot. Towed my toyota and a skid loader with that setup in fairly flat country and it didnt get hot on 1x5.

Nice vid BTW:thumbsup:

I ususally setup all the truck for towing i do with this setup 350-375hp

7x10 310 BAR (125hp) this injector actuall has more power than most 150hp injectors
Quad XZT+ (similiar to ez)
4inch turbo back
CAI
Gauges
AD150

This setup Max your goin to see is 12-1300deg i dont care how hard you drive it or how much weight. Our sole purpose when looking for ths setup was pull the highest egts and thats all we could get. There is also a friend running same setup as above but we have a 7x10( .010 lift and .010 stroke) 310BAR. I call this a 150hp injector but most on the market call it 200hp. This guy tows the crap out this truck. Egts are little higher but controlable. Most guys i know with twins and a sovp with big injectors only run timing on the street any way because you honestly dont need it.

I towed with my truck just fine and no egts problems. 16ft trailer and 10,000 excavator 435hp

CAI
7x10 310BAR
hrvp
jim jessup tune

theres no turning this setup down i dint try for max egts but just driving there were no problems. If i get my t-case done i plan on goin and picking up a truck in ohio and towing it back with my s366 i have now and i guarentee i wont have problems.

Yup, had that same exact setup for a while, and you are right on. NO HIGHER THAN 1300 degrees no matter what, dynoed 350 and towed great.

thanks Kyle. i had been seeing where there were a lot of people asking the same thing and kept being told that 150's were too big. so i thought i'd remove the myth a little. but i do agree that for some set up 150's are way too big. i wish we could all get a thread going of different set ups and sizes with videos to set the record straight. i was leery of 150's until i rode in Josh's truck. so now i how we can help other guys make a sound choice and feel safe. i need to get a video up of how much smoke it doesn't make too :lol4:

so, quick ?.... Say I go on ahead and order me some mach 4's and throw em in there, I would be ok with the box turned down and could possibly pull a small load on a trailor with the box off and be ok??.... that is until I get a turbo.... if so I may go on ahead and get them and throw them in there....

Towing with big sticks is very manageable. Its a lot easier with a manual than an automatic, but still possible. Like others have said, a lot of it is the driver and the truck. Use your head, and if you're gonna tow heavy with a modded truck, get gauges and learn how to use them.

I'm dealing with a 3rd gen, but I towed heavy with my stock turbo and big sticks with the X2 turned off before I upgraded, and it was still manageable. On long steep grades, I'd just let off and watch my EGTs and make sure I knew when to downshift. If you've got that much weight behind you, you're not gonna need to accelerate like there's no tomorrow, so just use your head and you'll make it no problem :party018:

well, think ill go on ahead and order sometime soon then....let me ask this question....should I KEEP my stock injectors and pay the 200 dollar core charge on the Mach 4's or send em back in and get my 200 back????

Ive thought about this too but haven't bought any injectors yet. I like the idea of having the stock ones around for a while but I hate to lose 200 bucks. I would find out what a set of good used stock injectors will sell for and then decide if keeping them is worth the difference.
