Hey guys yesterday I installed some dap 7x.010's, bled the fuel system and started her up. Ran good. First time I ripped on it, it was good. As soon as I pushed the clutch in the truck died. Lost fuel pressure. Bled it again on the side of the road and ran fine. I figured it just had some more air in it or something. Drove it some more and it was good for a little. Got on it again and same thing happened. Did the same process and got it going again. Got on it again a few times and ran fine so I figured I was good to go. Well today I went to start the truck and it cranked longer than normal. Just got on it again and I was looking at my mechanical fuel pressure gauge and the edge fp and they were both at about 17-19psi. Pushed the clutch in and it shuts off. When I bumped the starter this time the fass didn't kick on till I did it a couple times. So I bled the system AGAIN and got it started AGAIN. What do you guys think? Maybe air bleeding in to the lines somewhere? Or fass not pushing enough fuel? Idk if it's a 95 or a 150, it was on the truck when I got it and it always holds 16-18psi no matter what. Any ideas?
A friend of mine just made a good point. I have the max boost setting on my edge set at 45psi. I know for a fact I'm pushing more than that. So maybe it's defueling and when I push the clutch in its just stalling out? Possibility?
It's pretty much an instant shut off. But only when I let off and then pus the clutch in to slow down. If I coast without pushing the clutch in its good as far as I know. I will test that when I leave the house today and report back. I'm kinda thinking since I had that hard start when I started it yesterday that maybe I'm getting air sucked in somewhere and that's causing it. I tightened all the lines good while putting it back together but I want to go over them and check everything just in case
Ok so today's findings are that had another hard start. Found out injector line #6 was very loose and leaking. Tightened it up and no more shutting off. Now if I step on it and let off to push the clutch in and coast I have a rough idle for a little bit. Once I step on the gas pedal a few times it smooths out.
Well it doesn't shut off anymore. I haven't had a rough idle after I posted it on here. But I do have the fuel draining back everytime I turn the truck off which makes it start hard then. All the lines are tight and there's no more leaks anywhere. The only thing I can think right now is possibly the orings on the connector tubes. I didn't change them with the ones that came with the injectors like a dummy and now I'm really kicking myself for it
If your standing on the drivers side of the truck looking at the vp that's the banjo bolt on the left side with the metal line correct? I did have that off during the install
Lift pump is fine 15-16psi. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be checking the overflow valve. I was reading some more about it and it seems like all my symptoms match up to that
I removed it and used an air gun set to the pressure. I tested it at 14psi which is what it should open at, any thing below that and it's bad. I didn't go any lower but I bet it would have opened even at 5psi because the spring was so weak
Ok I changed the overflow valve today. Started it up afterwards and then parked it after a small drive. About 4 hours later, started it back up and still a hard start. I'm lost.
Yes that's tight. No leaks. Just changed the connector tube orings today like I should've done before but no difference. Still hard starts after a couple hours
Have you tried parking with the nose downhill then trying to start the next day. Sounds like air in the system to me. Check sealing washers on banjo at back of head and the T fitting on the drivers side near the fuel filter. I'm guessing you still have the stock filter cause your sig says Fass lp. The factory fuel canister has been known to leak as well
Parking uphill or downhill doesn't do anything for me, I did try that. And the stock filter is eliminated so I don't have to worry about that. What kind of washers are on the banjo bolt and that t fitting? Some kind of copper ones that I'd be able to get at a parts store? Or are they a special dealer item? I know they're all tight, but maybe the washers are just worn out. I just don't know why they only start acting up after the injector install
No they are all cummins only parts. I'd say maybe time to go back to square one. It only starting happening after the injector install, something is wrong with the install or injector. Maybe time to pull them back out and re install. Did you use new orings on the connector tubes?
I'm thinking the same thing. I was just hoping not to have to do it lol. But the o rings are changed. I didn't put them in initially and a few days later I pulled them back out and changed them
