i thought the 351 was not a vgt (variable geometry turbo) was i wrong? i didnt think dodge went with a variable untill the 6.7

The HE351cw is what I have on my truck. (Pre 6.7) That doesn't have the VGT setup. The thread was discussing the HE351ve turbo.

ohh woops. i was thing just the standard 351 non vgt. so would you still have to modify the stock exhaust manifold? i have a milling machine and lathe so i could modify it easily i was just curious.

Not with the HE351cw. But you certainly will have to reindex the turbo, build a custom charge air pipe and downpipe.

So the VGT's of the 6.7s will fit our exhaust housings? What modifications would have to be done??

could i just get a down pipe for the 05-07 that would fit the 351cw and modify the exhaust(weld the down pipe to the exhaust i have now) and is it difficult to index the compressor housing? and what do you do with the electronic waste gate? can i just get like the banks big head waste gate or another mechanical/adjustable waste gate actuator? and my last question is could i just get the boost tube from a 4.5-07 and clamp it right in or are the lengths different? sorry for all the questions.

ohh ya and would i just be better off to get the exhaust manifold from the 4.5-07 and just use that instead of modifying my stocker?

No, the exhaust housings will not fit our manifolds or our turbos.

Here is the portion of the 3rd gen 5" exhaust downpipe I hacked up to get past the frame rail and transmission. And to add length.

Indexing is just taking the turbo apart (just the housings) and pulling the pins out, then reassemble.

I removed the electronic wastegate from mine and used an ATS plug in place of it. The fitting was just to test, but later I installed a adjustable boost elbow.

No, a 3rd gen charge air pipe won't work at all for you. Nor will the manifold as it'll position the turbo in the wrong place.

Here's the charge air pipe on mine.

Search under my name for my thread about the turbo swap.

Ok guys, update time. I almost have the first turbo adapter finished.. While you "could" re-drill the t3 flange on the exhaust manifold, the ports on a t3 are shorter and wider, while the WGTM flange on the 6.7 HE351VE is longer and narrower... Any way you cut it, it will not be good and will cause air turbulence at the junction between turbo and manifold due to the vastly different shaped ports...

I have built the first manifold adapter. I had a local machinist make plates of 1/2 inch steel that perfectly match my t3 manifold and my 6.7 turbo..... These are machined to be an exact match. then, I cut a piece of tube stock that had dimensions almost the same as the larger 6.7 turbo's opening. This was welded to the plate for the turbo. Then, the tube was cut in each corner and trimmed and collapsed to match the t3 flange..... Then welded in place. After that, the corners that had been cut were welded shut. Now I'm in the process of cleaning up the weld and smoothing the inside with a die grinder.....

The advantage of this style of adapter will allow the exhaust gasses to flow from the smaller t3 ports to the larger 6.7 port smoothly without turbulence.

If this turns out good, I might be offering them for sale.. I have $50 into the maching on the plates for this adapter, plus the cost of tube stock and my time.....

Another benefit of this kind of adapter is it will be a snap to drill and tap for pyro or drive pressure when making it. (which I will be doing.)

On the control front, I'm going to try a mechanical control method that's been developed by the VW community and seems to work well....

Thanks for showing me this thread, I'm following all HE351VE threads that I can find, there are a few. Check this out if you haven't already:
