Check over in the TSB list on TDR - I seem to recall a TSB that reflashed the ecm/pcm to adjust idle speed for that complaint - but since I have a 6-speed, didn't pay lots of attention to it...

Gary I just looked threw the 2002 TSb List and didnt and didnt find anything about the truck dieing going into gear...

It was OK with Stock Sticks then Worst with the bosios and now with the haisleys its real bad ... may have to send the coinverter back to suncoast and get the stall changed

thing is it dont do it everytime maybe 7-10 times it will bog way down and almost die ,,,, it completed died 7-10 times with the bosios its yet to flat out die with the new injectors but its close ??? some people said its the VP going bad ,,,well it did it before the new one and it still does it

BTW way on 2002 CTD bewteen 50,000 and 70,000 im about 6 for 10 VP failures on my list

I just checked the TSB list on TDR, didn't see the one I referred to, but sure remember the subject - might be worth asking about in a new thread...

You saying you have had to replace *6* VP-44's in 20K miles?

I reciently had this problem - my truck started stalling evertime I put it in gear to leave in the morning - I searched TDR and found a post by someone at Suncoast that said -

"tight TQ + large injectors = stalling at start - do the ecm flash"

I took the truck to DC dealer and they said it wouldn't help - I told them to do it anyway. It worked -hasn't stalled since. And I mean it stalled every morning. I use to have to restart is a couple times and then increase rpms to close to 1000 and put it in reverse to get going.

I don't know the TSB # but it is called 'cold start or hard start TSB' or something like that.

Hope this helps - it did me - Eric
This must be the TSb

As pointed out earlier, this one SHOULD fix the problem - but apparently doesn't for some who have tried it - I wonder what would happen if a larger amount of a decent fuel additive as used to comphensate for the #1 diesel commonly used in cold climate country?

Note that the following is *NOT* the same as the cold weather high-idle speed option for our trucks - that is a different program that is already inside the ECM, and only needs to be activated in areas needing it.

Quote:
TSB 18-014-01

All Performance enhancement for severe cold weather environments.
This bulletin applies to all Ram trucks equipped with a 5.9L 24-valve Cummins diesel engine with a 49-state emissions calibration and an automatic transmission. The bulletin describes how to selectively erase and reprogram the Powertrain Control Model (PCM) with new software (59t7a). The problem addressed by the PCM reprogram is a hard starting and/or idle speed fluctuations condtion.

Cummins 24-vavle engines used with automatic transmissions can be severely affected by the use of sub-grade #1 diesel fuel when ambient temperatures are below 0°C (32°F), typically prevalent during the Winter months in Alaska, Northwestern Canada, and similar climates/temperatures elsewhere.

This change will have no effect on performance during warm weather or when standard grade diesel fuels #1 or #2 are used.

Vehicles with 49-state certification can apply this calibration if needed. The calibration can be changed back to the original calibration if desired.
